"The Fashion Show" Needs to Check its References

The Fashion Show is still on. Who knew?

But on last nite's penultimate episode the remaining designers' dum-dumness proved why this laggard and irrelevant show needs to burn off into obscurity already.

During a mentor moment with Isaac Mizrahi, there were only slacked jaws and qu'est-ce que c'est at Mizrahi's "obscure" reference points of Irving Penn, Cecil Beaton and Schiaparelli

(One of many Vogue covers Irving Penn photographed)

(Cecil Beaton with just a few of the names of the famous and fashionable he photographed)

(Coco Chanel's main rival, Elsa Schiaparelli was hugely influenced by surrealists artists like Salvador Dali and her skeleton dress was quite "shocking" even today)

Umm, this is the FASHION show and you think these references are so out there?

Shameful.

  1. I could not agree more. It drives me crazy when these contestants - who say that fashion is their "life" - know NOTHING about history. I am now forgetting which show it was (either an old Project Runway, or maybe last season's "the Fashion show') where the designers had no idea who Halston was. COME ON! xoxoxl

  2. I think it was the first season of "The Fashion Show," because I am pretty sure that Isaac's eyes almost popped out of his head when the contestant had no idea who Halston was (with good reason)! I think the challenge was to design an outfit for a legendary fashion house, but to make something which that company could come up with today. Each contestant was assigned a designer and got to look at one famous dress, up close. And of course, most of these contestants never heard of the famous designers, it was TRAGIC! xoxol
