Give Your Fur Coats to Those Who Need It: Animals

Starting on Black Friday and running until Earth Day 2012, Buffalo Exchange is gathering furs to give back to animal charity program "Coats for Cubs"

Buffalo Exchange encourages you to "bring your real fur apparel, including trims, accessories and shearling, to any Buffalo Exchange and let us know it’s a gift for our Coats for Cubs program". Buffalo will then add it to the over 6,000 coats it has contributed to this Humane Society endorsed program since 2006 to "provide bedding and comfort to orphaned and injured wildlife".

Umm, this is the most amazing way to unload that old fur you got from Grandma and a great excuse to pop by Buffalo Exchange and peruse the racks of recycled designer fashions at deep discounts. Best part: if you bypass the bag they'll donate an extra 5 cents to a charity of your choice. An animal option is always offered. Twice the four-legged love!

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes... Even More Beautiful in Paris?

Honey, no need to look up: heaven's on your arm

Most ladies would be smitten if they man swept them away to Paris. Oh but Eva Mendes has to be all greedy like and run off with her super cutie beau Ryan Gosling. I'd hate on her, but I kinda dig her. -hmph-

Keep Your EPI Kit Handy, Duchess

(Honey, be careful where you put that stinger)

The Royals: they're just like us! Rubbing bee venom on they face to simulate that just stung feel so it swells and plumps up those saggy jowls.

Venom slinger to the stars, Deborah Mitchell claims "it tricks the skin’s surface into thinking it has been stung, increasing its blood flow, collagen and elasticity" and that's what keeps clients like Victoria Beckham, Michelle Pfeiffer and Those Incredible Minogue Sisters buzzing for more of her "bee sting facial"

Dannii Minogue (with Deb Mitchell) shows off her bee-stung lips... and cheeks and neck and....

And now, according to the UK Daily Mail Kate Middleton is getting sweet on the idea thanks to a direct referral from fellow client, Camilla Parker Bowles

(I kinda just love this picture of this B! Ha!)

Hmm... remember when DuWop was all the rage for that faked Lisa Rinna look? I'm pretty sure that was the results of bee venom too. perhaps it isn't all the cell phones that are killing off the bees: it's Lindsay Lohan and the Queen of England!!

I'm Officially the Nostradamus of Fast Fashion Colabs

Remember when I told Target its next colab should be with Marni?

Well H+M heard me and ran with it....

Window Dressing on the Side: What Exactly is Going on at Screaming Mimi's?

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but is the fowl plotting his post-thanksgiving revenge on those meat-eating bastards?

Again, I might be diggin' deep.

Bergdorf Goodman Sent Me a Present

Ok so I'm sluggin' through work today, minding my business as I try to get back into a routine that I'd only just started before this long holiday siesta. I casually check my email and what to my wonder would suddenly appear but an email from Bergdorf Goodman

Bergdorf Goodman wrote Mac from Maryland about my blog!

What a gift and my birthday isn't for another three weeks!

And the gift keeps on giving as the official, just released full length video of 'dogs gone wild' is pure mutt!

I love that the spotted dog (is that a Cavalier King James??)  is dreaming of hot tea and room diffusers. Ha. Sounds like he understands the powers of tub time.

I Love this Guilty Pleasure Like a Love Song, Baby

My inner 12 year old girl singing in her hair brush kinda has a crush on this sweet little slinky slice of song

And I enjoy that the video is rightfully fun and light. No slut wear, no sexually suggestive ring pops or references to sweating and grinding that the artist claims is just about dancing.

It's dreamy and disposable. Perfect pop.

My Favorite Thanksgiving Moment

Mr Taurus and I hold nephew Baby B at his family's Thanksgiving in Connecticut

DON'T: Leave Out Jessica Lange

Jessica Lange weren't featured for even a minute on this week's "American Horror Story"  and I am not at all thankful for this slight

I suggest you don't disappoint again or I will not be watching this mess unfold any further.

I Avoided Black Friday

So I'm gonna reward myself with a little Shipley and Halmos action this weekend!

Especially since they take credit cards! Umm... this be good!

Got My Suitcase Packed

Pumpkin pie, I'm ready for ya!

Let's Give "Som" Thanks

Teen Vogue asked a slew of American designers to talk about the taboo-iest of fashion topics: eating. Lots and lots of eating, as in Thanksgiving. and what they serve up in their Yumiko Sekine aprons.

When grilled everyone from Erin Fetherston to Jill Stuart listed a sweet dish from years gone by and Peter Som shared his mother's annual spinach souffle recipe. Surprisingly it sounds like the ideal Thanksgiving treat: heavy and nap inducing and something so rich and laborious that you'd never think to make it any other time of year.

Som claims "it's the perfect antidote to all the traditionally heavy thanksgiving food, so I think I'll be making this one for a while!"

I claim all those tablespoons of butter, cups of cheese and 9 eggs is hardly what I call "light", but fashion designers have some real wack-a-doo standards, so no shock there.

Anywho here's the recipe and below's the link for the other recipes as well. Salut!

peter som's spinach soufflé

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing the dish
1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for sprinkling
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup scalded milk
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
4 extra-large egg yolks, at room temperature
5 extra-large egg whites, at room temperature
1/2 cup grated aged cheddar cheese, lightly packed
1 package frozen chopped spinach, defrosted and squeezed dry
1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Butter the inside of a 6 to 8 cup soufflé dish (6.5" to 7.5" in diameter by 3.5" inches deep) and sprinkle evenly with Parmesan. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. With a wooden spoon, stir in the flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes. Off the heat, whisk in the hot milk, the nutmeg cayenne, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Cook over low heat, whisking constantly, for 1 minute, until smooth and thick. Off the heat, while still hot, whisk in the egg yolks, one at a time. Stir in the cheddar, 1/4 cup of Parmesan and the spinach and transfer to a large mixing bowl. Put the egg whites, cream of tartar, and a pinch of salt in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. Beat on low speed for 1 minute, on medium speed for 1 minute, then finally on high speed until they form firm, glossy peaks. Whisk one quarter of the egg whites into the cheese sauce to lighten and then fold in the rest. Pour into the soufflé dish, and then smooth the top. Draw a large circle on top with the spatula to help the soufflé rise evenly, and place in the middle of the oven. Turn the temperature down to 375 degrees. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until puffed and brown. Serve immediately.

Slave for Love of Fast Fashion

And family

H+M's holiday ads are out and Bryan Ferry is center stage with his son, Tara.

Now I don't know why you'd name your son after everybody's favorite (but recently shot in the head) actress from True Blood, but hey, you sang the love theme song to Legend. How am I gonna question you?

Meanwhile there's a bunch more gay icons with they kids up in this

Former Madonna boy toy and still hot daddy-o, Tony Ward with his daughter

And mulit-generational models Jerry Hall and Georgia May Jagger looking beautiful, big smiled and blonde

(I'd hold on for dear life too, darlin': that's Jerry F-in' Hall!)

Window Dressing on the Side: Crewcuts

There's some magic going on in the UES windows of Jcrew's kids line, Crewcuts

Look at that lazy bastard of a bunny in the left corner. Don't he look like he's got some kinks to work out in his head

Cameo Work Blog: Cranberry and Saucy

Made a cameo fill-in visit at work this Sunday and gobbled up the opportunity to toss together a Thanksgiving themed cornucopia of puns.

Good Advice: Just a Dab Won't Do Ya!

"When in doubt, apply more glitter"

-Ms. Kylie Minogue's advice for when an endeavor isn't panning out, courtesy of Women's Wear Daily at her launch of her 'Dazzling Darling' fragrance.

Hmm... not sure that's really the way to get a promotion at the office, but worth a try.

(Golly, it's fragrance central over at Stately Grand Street Manor today. Must be thoughts of Christmas wish lists....)

Bergdorf Lets the Bitches Run Wild

The bitches are running wild at Bergdorfs!

Now that I've been doggedly teased, when does the full movie bow (wow)?

Ooh, puns!

The Latest Bomb

I'm a smell snob. I love colognes and perfumes and sweet and spicy smells. Add in my total devotion to Dutch duo Viktor & Rolf and I couldn't be more excited about the announcement that they're releasing a men's counterpart to their signature women's scent Flowerbomb (not that I haven't been known to dab a little on me for dinners and dates)

(MariaCarla, my love, careful with that thing)

Their first foray into men's, Antitdote, was clever but relied too heavily on those oceany, clean "blue" notes that feel too middle school prom to me

But with a cocktail of peppercorn, cinnamon and tobacco, Spicebomb is what I want, what I really, really want. Shame I have to wait 'til March. Maybe I can convince my British friends to smuggle me some during the first drop in the UK in January.

Until then, here's the ad

Surprise Doin' It: Der Vampyre

"You know, Meghan, when you asked me to go to see a play tonite you kinda failed to mention it was an opera. In German!"

Luckily there were vampires to temper the Teutonic

And cheers to my pal, Mr. C.C. for his post-intermission solo. A welcome humorous bit about the joys of drinkin'.

For Less than an Andrew Jackson

Look it ain't easy being into both clothes and cakes. A boy's gotta budget. And yes I know I've been a bit heavy on the aspiration fashions lately (sorry Thom Browne, even at sample sale you outta my league!), but looky here at this fun and frugal little sweater vest I done dug up

A sweater vest will always get my wardrobe possibilities panties in a bunch. Throw in some marching soldiers, multiple colors and contrast ribbing and I'm all "here's my lunch money".

(Vintage wool-blend sweater vest, size small, $16.95 at Beacon's Closet,

DON'T: Pussyfoot Around a Clearance Sale

I'm sorry Filene's but aren't you bankrupt? You aren't gonna liquidate all those Tahari dresses at 10% off!

This Week's Top Model Moment

Damn, Angelea, you've got some cat-like collection of lives up your gossamer gown's sleeve or something!

(Angelea doin' the shut put... or put shot...)

Cuz you've been in the bottom two more than the emergency pair of holey snowflake print slipper socks in the back of the drawer (figuratively speaking, of course...)

I Guess Gremlins 2 Isn't the Universal Reference Point I Think it is

So yesterday at work I'm over thinking the wording on some purse or coat.

"I guess when you dissect the word order too much it all turns to fluff and non-sense, right? It's like in Gremlins 2 when the smarmy executives grill Billy over the rules about feeding the Mogwai after midnite"

-Blank stares-

Boy do I feel either really old or cuckoo loony tunes.

If you have no idea or you're 100% with me, either way skip to minute 4:00 and you too can start making inappropriate work references about caraway seeds

I'm Not Sure I can Hang with Mr. Cooper

People Magazine named Bradley Cooper the "sexiest man alive" and sure he's handsome enough, but inset cover bubble (and animal lover!) Ryan Gosling has my heart for his dreaminess, nerdiness and dedication to craft

And hello, no one can claim the same for B.C.

Oh and obviously I need to read People more often cuz I coulda sworn Bradley was J-Lo's new man! Damn girl, save some for the rest of the folks!

The Crosby Bar really let the creative wind out they sails post scenting of raisins

Inspiring Shot: Park & Bond

With my new job comes new sartorial challenges: who am I, fashion wise, in this latest incarnation? Of course like any savvy gay I have my usual spirit animals of visual reference: The Zombies. Rudi Gernreich. Steve McQueen.

Or perhaps I return to an old fave: Michael Caine.

Because he's the only guy I see in this Park & Bond landing page shot osocial media director of the Soho and Tribeca Grand hotels, Steven Rojas

Perhaps I should give my fresh co-workers a heads-up. They are most likely a shade unprepared for my capricious taste in fashion and the many guises I'll don before the year is up.

Nah, let's keep 'em guessing.

If you're rich:

Gant by Michael Bastian striped cotton turtleneck $148
Simon Spurr large plaid peak-lapel flannel blazer, $1,895
Alexander Olch "The Boris" donegal wool handkerchief, $55
Versace slim cotton pant, $295

My Dark Shadows Quiz Results

Oh god, my latest obsession has taken me straight to pop culture online quiz world. What's next Pogo?!

You are Carolyn Stoddard!

You're a fun person, out to get the best out of life and those around you. Essentially a wild child at heart, you live life hard and fast on your own terms. You have great hair too!

Well I do got that good hair....

Wanna find out which Dark Shadows character you are (and you know you do!):

It's Not a Bookend

and it's not a table bracket

Believe it or not that's a shoe from my favorite architects turned designers United Nude

But good luck to the ladies who choose to work this look. I hope you got some good Epsom salts and a good man who loves you.

Freak on this Leak!

I know this is just the leaked demo version of Madonna's new single that will feature Nicki Minaj and MIA, but I'm already hooked. Chanting, self-referential boasts, hooky choruses and beats and bleeps that just say "Hey it's Spring!" .... I'm giving you ALL my love, Madge!

Mr Taurus was a Jeopardy Question

Well sorta. It went down a little something like this:

Alex Trebek: A group of islands off the west coast of Africa once colonized by Portugal.

                  Qu'est-ce que c'est?

Me:  What are the Cape Verde islands?!

Mr. G looked at me in disbelief. "How'd you know that, dummy?"

Me: Mr Taurus is Cape Verdean. Duh.

Another reason to love that man of mine.
