If You're Heading to the Beach This Weekend

Make sure you do some extra squats first, fellas, as the silhouette for men's swimwear has creeped up faster than the US economy, that's for sure

Funny, I just happened to write up a trend piece on this very topic for the new and improved
Viral Fashion

Wanna hear about it? Here it goes:

Katy Perry's Met Ball 2013 Look is a Bit Busy-tine

Not sure if that pun worked, but Katy Perry sure worked that Queen Theodora drag!

You rock that "I'll unite the Western and Eastern Roman Empire once more!" look, Katy! xo

Tis the Season for Nutcracker Stallkers and French Whore Getups

I can't, honey.

I just can't!

Can't stop loving this W Magazine December 2012 shot of Marion Cotillard in Dolce & Gabbana, a bob and a lecherous nutcracker that is. Cheers!

Let the Spring 2013 Editorials Begin!

With this Dolce & Gabbana Roman centurion print silk full skirt with sheer dot blouse

This just screams ELLE 'First Look' section come Spring

(Yes, I've finally got back on board the Spring shows.... boy am I behind!)

Honey, There's a Reason Kate Moss is Still Ne Plus Ultra!

Kate Moss, Daria Werbowy and Lara Stone all have separate covers of the September 2012 cover of Paris Vogue

All were shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, all wearing the same Dolce & Gabbana dress, red lip and slicked back hair

But Kate proves why, at 38, she still commands the room (and the big bucks!)

Dolce & Gabbana Really Suits Lily Collins

The androgynous lady in a suit look ain't nothin' new, but it feels really fresh on Snow White round 1 gal about town, Lily Collins, who until now favored cupcake dressing of the Marchesa variety. Bon idee!

Thanks for the Ad: Dolce and Gabbana Makeup Spring 2012

Man Mother Nature really did a 180 here, right? Just last week I packed up my sweaters and woolies as those confident early items to box and tape for the impending move. Now I ravaged the nearest with scissors and tires eyes this morning for something to fight the hard freeze out on the street.

Meanwhile, British actress Felicity Jones isn't having this problem

She's in a land of pastels and butterflies. B***h.

DON'T: ELLE's Drab Work of ART

One of the many boring Jessicas covers the December issue of ELLE magazine

but that's not even my main gripe here. ELLE's picked up this bad habit of denoting a theme to each issue of the year and out of nowhere (perhaps to time with Art Basel?) decided December is now "ART-ember", celebrating artists and the art scene.

Meh.

Strip me of my gay card and all, but I couldn't snooze faster at the mention of "ART". Yuk. So pretentious and preposterous the way those white folks flit about flapping hands and making wild gestures over adolescent splatter and nude self-portraits while onlookers nod approvingly and sip cheap magnum wine. Ugh

Sure enough I breeze through the front of book's tedious "we can make this tie together, I swear" pile up and into the well featuring a stunning China Chow in the most uninspired outfits

How is that even possible? This B's got style enough for all 12 issues!

Sadly the whole thing wraps up with the back cover's Dolce & Gabbana ad with Ms Scarlett Jo-Blank Stare

So bookend dull starlets, missed opportunities with actual women of (color!) style and pigeon holed, irrelevant concepts....

Isn't there a holiday or two going on, ELLE?  DON'T be such a Grinch!

Work Blog: Butterfield 8 Inspiration

Even before her death this year, I've been one Elizabeth Taylor lovin' gay and with a big vintage event coming up next Friday at Roundabout Soho, I wrote up this style inspiration from one of E. Taylor's Oscar winning performances, "Butterfield 8"

(Vivienne Westwood lipstick logo shirt, size 4, Roundabout Price $149)

(Dolce & Gabbana fuchsia silk bustier dress, size 6, Roundabout Price $469)

DON'T: Onions Belong Not on My Crotch, Thanks

Oh Dolce & Gabbana, just when you had me on your side you slap a vegetable known for its stink and ability to make grown men cry RIGHT on a lady's crotch!

Not right. Not right at all.

Armani's Nasty Exchange

(Sure, he's all smiles now)

What's in the champagne these days, cuz fashion folk can't stop taking swipes at each other. Giorgio Armani threw some barbs at his fellow Italian designers during the menswear Spring 2012 shows this week, stating that

"houses such as Prada and Dolce & Gabbana make men look ridiculous and blamed the press for not being more critical about clownish styles that men don’t wear"

Hmmm... let's compare

(Dolce and Gabbana)

Yes, the leather mesh shorts were a bit too much of a good Tom of Finland thing, but I dug the effect in full car coat design.

(Prada)

Pattern clash isn't exactly a new thing in menswear, but I still believe in it, as I do 60's influences. Here Prada combines the two with love-in style daisy pants and gold caddie style bags. Reinterpreting recent trends into the next? That's what Prada's always been about.

(Giorgio Armani)

Armani, I know you have a look and I commend your commitment and one could argue said commitment avoids the manic, A.D.D. sense of fashion the past 10+ years, but, these styles look like they're from 10+ years ago. And that's the fashion kiss of death.

Oscars 2011: My Take

Oscars. Fashion blog. Gay man. Fashion review. Hit it!

The Winners:

1. Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture

Cate's a risk taker and has more style than you can shake a pair of chandelier earrings at. The portrait bodice and the stones and the pilgrim style squared off neckline are details no one else would dare. But she pulls them off and she can rock yellow like no other. Go on, now!

2. Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein Collection

I think this picture actually sums it up: in a sea of Marchesa style frills and frippery, Miss Sleek n' Shine looks like a modern day Paco Rabanne. Take note, Reese, this is how you do 60's homages without looking like a Barbie.

The "it's an honor to be nominated":

1. Reese Witherspoon in Armani Prive

Speaking of which, my sister and a lot of the press loved this. I thought she looked like an Austin Powers villainess and way too costumey.

But Mr Taurus had the best line of the nite with "what's with the obvious Sally Beauty Supply fall?"

2. Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott

I liked this cobalt crusted number and the emerald bracelet is a smart, glamorous pop. That necklace, however, should have stayed in the bottom of the ocean where the Titanic lady left it. Too much. A chic set of earrings would have been the right call here.

The losers:

1. Scarlett Johansson in Dolce and Gabbana

Look I understand she's one of the faces of Dolce and Gabbana, but the face is what is in question here

She looks rushed. Like when you go to a friend's birthday party and you can tell the birthday girl planned the dress way in advance but then was running so late that the hair and makeup were slap dashed. Poor thing. Better luck next year.

2. Nicole Kidman in Christian Dior Couture

It pains me to say this cuz Dior and Nicole Kidman are like fashion no brainers, so how did this go so wrong? Could this look more like a cheap 80's chain hotel's plastic sconces masquerading as fancy light fixtures? What happened to the days when Nicole was fashion royalty? She's dropped the ball a lot lately.

The Upset:

1. Sharon Stone in Christian Dior

You just know Joan and everyone is gonna tear her to shreds, but I love this crazy B for all her insanity and diva bravado.

And that ring. What the hell is with that ring?

You just know she dug that into people's hands and backs without care. Ha. Crazy kook, I love ya!

Duffy's New Video: A Dolce and Gabbana Ad Come Alive?

When we last saw Duffy she was riding the post Amy Winehouse 60's revival. For album #2, she's still firmly planted in the 60's but judging by the first video, it's much more the Fellini fantasy of coolly coiffed girl in little black dress dancing in a sea of well dressed men.

Honey, may we all experience that same day just once in our lives

Thanks for the Ad: Fall 2010 Fashion

It's one of my favorite times of the year again: September Fashion Magazine Time!

Now the editorial part long ago lost its allure to me after far too many disappointingly silly actresses against white backdrops modeling clothes that could be appealing if on a real model and not some dishwater tanned blonde girl from the latest interchangeable romantic comedy (this month's roster of Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston excel at proving my point!)

(Awkward pose with claw hands in a kimono)                                  (Random Barbara homage)

So let's look at the ads! Cuz they still sell a fantasy land where you wear heels and and a full on Look to lounge on fire escapes and traipse around the city doing fabulously chic and indeterminate tasks

I've never been crazy about Natalia V (and that pose is sooooo Benny Ninja episode of America's Top Model), but DAMN if Karen and Christy aren't making a dramatic case for purchasing a vanity and a full skirt

Anja missed her train Friday afternoon, too wrapped up instead pondering why a raven is like a writing desk

Every August, the streets of New York City are filled with European tourists. Misleading ads like this are why every single one of those Euros is holding bags from mall brands like American Eagle, Express and Old Navy

Speaking of Old Navy, kids,  Domenico and Stefano spent a lot of money to look real cheap. And that strategy only works for Dolly

I see Anna Wintour advised Ann Taylor to dump the models and sip from the dishwater blonde actress cup

I was a fan of all the color blocking and 60's futurism Nicolas Ghesquiere used for Fall 2010, but this ad looks like you forced your sloppy, bratty teenage daughter to go to Sears for the annual family portrait

I LOVE Angela Lindvall!

Not a fan of Guess, but kinda loving this rockabilly meets Gina Lollobrigida imagery

And Moschino got the Colonial for Fall memo, although my version will have a whole lot less c**k rings involved. Yikes!
