I Can Dig It

(Photo: Oprah.com)

They say nothing's harder than finding a needle in a haystack.

As an amateur reseller,I say, "Bring on that haystack, honey!" You never know where a Brikin is hiding.

This mentality was reinforced and rewarded yesterday when Mr Taurus and I stumbled across a end of season vintage courtyard sale. A vintage store stacked piles of end of season deadstock in its courtyard and swung open the doors to the general public. Each item: $3.

We couldn't resist. Others in line did not share our enthusiasm. Excessive mounds of misshapes can be daunting, true, but for me and my partner (and burgeoning business partner) the thrill is in the hunt. And hunt we did, honey. We found some real kills in the drifts of duds and all was fair game. Bargain hunters came and went but none preyed like our party. Most felt instant intimidation or laziness and gave up before they really began. More for us.

All in all we walked away with over a dozen chic car coats, tailored trousers, men's bomber jackets and sleek pencil skirts.

To the scavenger go the spoils.

Louboutins are a Fashion Week Must

It's Fashion Week here in New York and all the ladies and gents are out in the finery walkin' the streets like a catwalk in heat.

Why not treat yourself to a little Louboutin?

My Ebay store has this amazing pair up right now for a mere $49.95 (umm, do you know what these little boogers go for?!) and if you're a tiny little thing the tease gets even sweeter since they're a 35.5. Ooh!

Admittedly, constant rain and suede aren't a natural pairing, but who you kidding that the fashion-rati aren't cabbing it everywhere?!

DON'T Let The New York Times Discourage You

(Why does the picture to thiis NY Times article have to have an immigrant worker tinge?)

I've had my issue with The New York Times before and I truly understand that this article on people starting up a "Plan B" job as a new career path after the "Great Recession" was meant to be an earnest warning, but as someone who has recently started their own successful self-employment, I say: go for it!

Like the people interviewed in this piece, I drudge through the running around, the spreadsheets and the long hours but unlike most of the subjects I work a 40+ hour job and still do freelance styling and writing on the side. In addition! But I never would say it's too hard or try to dishearten anyone from following their dream. Only through your own business and own projects can you honestly be independent.

But like anything in our instant gratification society, if it takes some work, we gripe. We are not interested in investments. Elbow grease is purchased away with Swifter mops and dusters. And a whole generation has been handed awards "just for playing". All this makes us forget that the sweetest fruit is one sewn by hand.

Let me make this point clear: I love my day job and I am hooked on the intrigue of my side projects, but nothing feels directly fulfilling like a sale on my Ebay store. That's 100% me: My eye, my hunt, my skill for knowing the market and researching competitive pricing, for writing engaging copy, for showcasing the best attributes of clothes and shoes through my styling and copywriting skills. Is it long hours and hard work? You betcha. But for my dream, I have all the Time(s) in the world.

Right Now I'm Feeling: David Shrigley

Ok two confessions right up front:

1. The catalyst for this post is an item I'm selling on Ebay, so this is a bit of a plug

2. However, thanks to this Pringle of Scotland colab t-shirt, I discovered an artist I've secretly loved for awhile and never looked into

(And really, when is a twin set not a "yes"?)

David Shrigley is a British visual artist whose work I'm most familiar with is a series of (presumably) stream of consciousness verse

I'm sure you've seen his work all over as houseware and fashion designers have utilized his art in their designs

While Shrigley's claim to fame is definitely his free flowing thoughts in scribble form, he's also had many successes in other medium including:

As a video director

He's recorded several spoken word albums

And is an installation and sculptural artist

(And I guess a fan of black kitties....?)

My favorite thing he does, however, is the cards. There's of course, all year stationary, but this X-mas I'm sending these treasures out

You've been warned!

Jimmy Choo New Sandals Anyone?

I haven't used my blog to promote any of the items I've been quietly selling on Ebay until I got the hang of it and created a whole store and all, but these Brand New in Box 100% Authentic Jimmy Choo copper sandals are too spectacular to keep secret

These size 37.5 little wonders of copper leather with shiny copper heel are the perfect shoes to samba with your man in the moonlight on a warm Mexico nite

(Umm... mad for that heel!)

And these Jimmy Choo heels are brand spankin' NEW. I tried to use them once for a photoshoot but it didn't look right. But my loss is your gain! Snatch these sexy sandals up and get to dancing!

Original Jimmy Choo box and dust bag included. I'm generous like that.

Bidding ends on Saturday June 18th. Good luck!
