No lie, ever since I saw this Pringle of Scotland Yves Klein blue 'mac'on ELLE UK's Istagram, it's haunted my thoughts since
That asymmetrical layered storm flap at the right, the concealed placket, the raised seaming and the buckle tab cropped cuffs are all giving me mod madness and this lil' number is crying for puddle jumpin', which might occur from time to time in old UK.
The matchy-matchy accessory trend, however, needs to END!

Is There a Fashion Trend That Should End?
I'm writing a piece now on fashion trends of 2012 that SHOULD NOT carry into 2013.
Something make your eye twitch? I'd love thoughts and suggestions.
Cheers

He's Not Heavy, He's My Spring Collection
(Clockwise from top: Haider Ackermann, Givenchy, Giambattista Valli, Balenciaga)
Perhaps after years of responding to negative body image pushing, designers have decided to pack on the pounds, cuzwhen you trim the fat from the Paris runways a significant trend is weighing in: Spring 2013 is gonna be heavy, man
(Layered, heavyweight satin and fur shoes at Céline. Summer calls, ladies!)
Do designers wanna wrap up and hide from a world riddled with political unrest and shaky economies? Do they figure the impending Mayan doomsday in December means none of this mess will make it to stores anyway?
Whatever the reason coats, layers and heavier fabrics abound for the first half of the year
Jesus, is that velvet????

Fashion Trend Death Knell: "Fashionista"
Revising a certain pr company's event announcement for the store, I was trying to find the right wording for our clientele. "Hmmm... I got it. I'll say 'we have something for every fashionista,'" to which I received a symphony of groans for my hard work. Turns out my co-workers are over the word "fashionista" and its too oft evocation.
And what should I stumble upon during last nite's Twitter perusal, but Executive Director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Steven Kolb stating
"fashionista". If you call yourself that you are not.
When I asked Mr Taurus about this he replied that the word is synonymous with "cheap" for him. Visions of Long Island girls in Juicy Couture track suits drinking Diet Coke and going to Diva Nails to get some tips come to mind
(The New York Times piece on Tween Fashionistas)
He summed it up with "Wendy Williams uses that term"
Ok I get it, there's too many people with too little knowledge of fashion throwing the title around when they merely mean they like shopping.
Now the question arises, what does one call themselves if they truly are interested in fashion, the history of fashion, design houses, models, textiles, cuts and how people pair items together?
A "style junkie"? No sounds lascivious. A "clothes whore"? Increasingly unsavory. A "fashion freak"? What kinda treatment is there for that? A "clothes horse"? What, can I ride that to Barneys?
I kinda like a "clothie", but there's some World of Warcraft term floating around already with that (true!). What about "style savant"... that's got a nice ring to it.
Whatever will supplant it, the point is 'fashionista', the bell tolls for thee.

Fashion Trend Death Knell: Leave these Flat Platforms in the 90's Please!
(They're coming to get you, Barbara...)
If we're to believe the Spring 2011 runways, women want to look like flatfooted visions of non-sex in these hideous cement shoes.
Again.
Weren't these bad enough the first go 'round in the 90's?
They didn't Spice Up my Life then and their flavor makes me extra queasy now. Ladies, do me and your Facebook photo album a favor and avoid this trend like the Hot Topic plague it is!
(Run like Hell from Chanel)
(Disregard Marc)
(Parade away from Prada)
Please, please, please be careful. A coronation of ugly Frankenstein shoe editorials and ads is coming our way! But we must fight back against the days of vinyl pants, ska influences and monster shoes. I got my pitchfork, grab your torch!

Fashion Trend Death Knell: Fall's Camel Obsession
(Michael Kors Fall 2010)
Kids, don't let VOGUE, Bazaar and all the others fool you. Camel may be the second coming for Fall 2010, but it is not your friend. No one looks good in this bland beige with better PR
(Chloe)
(Gucci)
Always a good indicator that a trend is dead on arrival is when models can't pull it off. They all look, no matter their coloring, sickly and drab. And not even in that revival 90's heroin chic way
(Prada)
(Alexander Wang)
(Marc Jacobs)
(Derek Lam)
Unite people and let's give a giant "pass" on this trend before it even gets going. And then we can be in the corner at parties laughing at the foolish who jump on board the camel trend and look like luxury death warmed over.

Fashion Trend Death Knell: Panama Hats
Why are Panama hats, the huge pretentious Summer 2009 trend, still omnipresent?
You hear that, Lassie? That's the toll of the bell. It's over. Unless you're Earnest Hemingway, they not cute.
