Prada Says Keep Your 3-D Glasses

You know those 3-D glasses ubiquitous at the glut of remakes and half bakes filling the theaters of late?

Well, Prada says don't toss 'em, wear 'em

Or at least that's what I see in these new men's Fall 2013 ads
featuring movie men not models natch

Bonus HIPSTER smarties featured on this cute boy
(I have no idea who is or what he's been in)

I Haven't Quit My Day Job

Hey kids, I know I've been in and out here lately. It's been CRAZY BUSY. Writing for a bunch of sites, lining up a September magazine cover interview and planning NYC Fashion Week... oy! But such a good busy.

Anywho, I'm still working full time too at Bluefly, where I've been writing headlines and captions for our sister site, Belle & Clive. Check out some of my favorites

Graphic, yes, but also a nice reminder that we have all the designer and contemporary styles that makes stylists and editors go cuckoo.

Alliteration is soooo my thing and we get to showcase those highly coveted Prada and Miu Miu 90's style platforms front and center. Come and get 'em!

A knowing play on The Wizard of Oz for fashionistas and friends of Dorothy alike.

Yup, a Joey Lawrence / Blossom reference. I love my job!

Linda Evangelista's Court Couture... Which is Your Favorite Look?

Someone just made this mother's day!

Linda's battles for child support from French fashion mogul François-Henri Pinault have ended in a secret settlement which means two things:

1. She could have won that $46,000 / month for "child support". That's a lot of Muse bags PPR's gonna have to push! (Or unfortunate Burger King commercials for wife Selma Hayek)

2. No more Prada coolness from Her Evangelista-ness.

Like Naomi, Winona and hell, even Lindsay before her, Linda worked that courtroom couture selling the media on her good girl wronged vibe (although maybe not a convincing single mom in need look)

(Ever the 'supe', Linda never misses a camera angle to work)

So which of her law-suits fit her best?

Personally I wouldn't get out of bed for less than that swingy grey contrast black jacket in pic two.

MET Ball Throwdown

Uninspired comedians (here's looking at you, Chelsea) may toss around the tired trope of The Oscars being the super bowl of the gays, but for my money, The MET Ball brings all the boys to the yard.

THE GOOD

(Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Burberry)

A Lurex and Aqua Net wonder of 60's, Anglomania references

(Carey Mulligan in Prada)

A bit Paco Rabanne, non? J'adore ca.

(China Chow in Jean Paul Gaultier Haute couture)

My vote for best dressed. But then Ms, Chow is not unfamiliar with that accolade.

THE BAD

(Kirsten Dunst in Rodarte)

Why did she go all Money Penny here?

(Anja Rubik in Anthony Vaccarello)

You're a model and you have a perfect body that you work hard to maintain, honey, we get it. But that's a lot of skin to be showing when Rosie Hunt's complete covered up.

(Beyoncé in Givenchy Haute Couture)

Umm... no. And shame on Givenchy for making this MACY's meets Carnivale look.

THE UGLY

(Rennee Zellweger in Pucci)

Why must she always make that snot face. Ugh.

And to cleanse the palate...

THE SEXY

(Swizz Beats in Givenchy)

Man, he fills a suit out well. Oh yeah, Alicia Keys be there too. I guess.

Prada Spring 2012 is Really Getting Some Mileage

All stylists wanna do is put Prada's vroom vroom vroom in the room room

(Just a taste of the many lady stars and model types that drive the Prada fashion force)

And here's the 50's hot rod collection parked in the windows of the Madison Avenue flagship

These looks really rev my engine!

Golden Globes 2012

It's Globes day here at Stately Grand Street Manor and it couldn't have timed any better since I have the day off for MLK.

Let's celebrate diversity by separating the good from the bad:

THE GOOD:

Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackermann

Oh you glorious, b***h! You never miss a chance to look a piece of architecture, like some grand statue that an aristocrat would add to their solarium. 'Tis far better than the cupcake princesses that dominate the carpet. Kudos, doll!

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

If you're a scarlet woman, why not embrace it?

Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka

Yes it's very frou-frou but she still manages to make it look oh so cool with the clean bodice and sleek hair. The old broad could teach many a child-ling.

THE BAD:

Lea Michelle in Marchesa

Awkward, stiff and not so fun. Oh and the dress is awful too. This was easily the worst of the evening with its messy mix of 80's Bond girl villain and recently let go Ice Capades dancer.

THE UNFORTUNATE:

Zooey Deschanel in Prada

This is a genius dress with its dot matrix pattern (a trend I jumped on early) and Mod to the future feel. I just wish it had found a different home. Zooey is too twee for this look (ugh, that head cock!) no matter what shag haircut she's working. This is the MISS of the evening. I'm sure people will love it. -Meh-

Paper Bag It

Spring 2012 saw a lot of trends, friends, but one to embrace is the paper bag waist (evidently this post will take the form of a limerick. Who knew?)

Above, Miuccia Prada crafted a periwinkle pencil skirt at Miu Miu with an exaggerated emphasis on the paper bag waistline. The narrow waist is the focus with solid basic top here, but a printed top could be a playful partner for the more adventurous.

Meanwhile Roksanda Ilinicic chose the opposite end of the color wheel and opposite end of a lady to highlight. This is all leg lengthening, easy breezy maxi style skirting with a subtle paper bag waistline. Throw on your highest heels and Mami long legs will be your new neighborhood nickname.

Of course the easiest way to incorporate this new style into your wardrobe is with the holdover pleated, roomier pant. Very Katharine Hepburn goes to the office, try these pants from Chris Benz for a fresh take on Monday morning dressing.

Prada's Spring 2012 hot wheels looks are gonna get some MAJOR Spring editorial!

Very Important for Fall: An Absurd Hat

Look, I have been a lifelong advocate of self-expression and the wearing of accessories past, but these "Grand Hotel" bellhop hats from Louis Vuitton, I feel are responsible for this wack-a-doo trend of ridic hats on heads

Umm, Christopher Bailey, you're super cute and all, but fuzzy dalmatian print hats haven't worked since Jay Kay rode a conveyor belt around a tiny room. Not really sure they worked then....

Ladies, in the morning do you ask yourself "Am I a world famous model shot by Steven Meisel in clothes by Miucca Prada?" Or is it just me? Either way, hats with chin straps made of that itchy Easter "grass" that gets everywhere and that your cat's always eating and then throwing up are not proper toppers. Sorry.

Prada Recycles

Remember this lip print skirt from Prada Spring/Summer 2000?

Well Prada thought it fresh again, 11 years later

Resort 2012

A kiss is just a kiss, but if you ask me, I prefer the lipstick pattern from that famous 2000 collection

(Oh, Maggie Rizer, I miss you!)

But that's a little too of the time, so Miucca wisely left that to the archives to mine some other time.

Now if this was for the Spring 2012 collection or, God forbid, Fall, I'd be quick to cry afoul, but Resort lends itself to a lite, casual air, so this double dip/ double lip don't offend.

-smooch-

DON'T: Wear an Entire Collection at Once

Thank God the Franken shoes were out on loan!

Look far be it for me to deny a lady of a certain age best known for a show from 1988 to try to steal an evening from the interchangeable whipper snappers, but darlin' this reads as crazy old Aunt Sally's gotten into the liquor cabinet again!

("Step aside Central Casting, Mama's got a photo op!")

I can also forgive a cuckoo bird trying to shake up the red carpet. A sea of  blonde girls wearing the same cupcake dress from Marchesa gets tiring, but Dana Delaney you committed a cardinal sin at the BAFTA's Brits to Watch ceremony this weekend (PS: what the H were you doing there, anywho?!)

DON'T wear one designer head to toe. And sure as hell DON'T wear the whole Prada runway at once
