I Haven't Quit My Day Job

Hey kids, I know I've been in and out here lately. It's been CRAZY BUSY. Writing for a bunch of sites, lining up a September magazine cover interview and planning NYC Fashion Week... oy! But such a good busy.

Anywho, I'm still working full time too at Bluefly, where I've been writing headlines and captions for our sister site, Belle & Clive. Check out some of my favorites

Graphic, yes, but also a nice reminder that we have all the designer and contemporary styles that makes stylists and editors go cuckoo.

Alliteration is soooo my thing and we get to showcase those highly coveted Prada and Miu Miu 90's style platforms front and center. Come and get 'em!

A knowing play on The Wizard of Oz for fashionistas and friends of Dorothy alike.

Yup, a Joey Lawrence / Blossom reference. I love my job!

Makin' It Happen is Scary

So my  resolution for 2013 was inspired by Mariah Carey. I will "Make It Happen" (yup, old school frizzy hair pre-poom poom shorts Mariah)

Today I wrote a business proposal for a huge opportunity. Mariah, you nailed it: if you believe in yourself enough, and know what you want, you're gonna make it happen!

While I was in Baltimore....

This happened....

Michelle Obama wore a Thom Browne coat to the inauguration and shut it the F down!

(Stride of Pride)

Choosing a designer most widely known for his menswear and the reinvention of men's suiting proportion (don't believe me, check out the Fall 2013 men's lines in Milan and Paris. It's all about the Thom Browne-esque cropped pant and fit) is a bold fashion leap. This coat says "authority, risk taker, structure and strength." LOVE LOVE LOVE

The accessories were perfect pops of feminine contrast and I liked how the slim raspberry leather gloves shout back to Sasha and Malia's coats. Perfection, Shelly.

However, not everything was sartorial bliss. The Spring 2013 Haute Couture shows started in Paris this weekend and THIS happened:

Look I know this is gonna be a controversial stance since the rest of the fashion press seems to have drank the Kool-Aid or is too frightened to challenge the favorite son of LVMH's Bernard Arnault, but this is BAD

Why must Raf Simons take my beloved Dior and make it look like 90's polyester nite out looks from the Deb?

Oh god, tonal stockings, really?????

and sheer netting right at your junk, that's what upper crust couture clients want, right?

Raf, get it right, please! This 'New Look' is making M. Dior spin.

Let's Talk about Dior, Baby

The damsels of Dior have been out and about showcasing the new looks from Raf Simons.

But as underwhelming as the Spring Couture and Spring 2013 collections were in my humble opinion, some stylish ladies made it look hot, while some, did not.

The best

(Marion Cotillard)                     (Leelee Sobieski)                              (Marisa Tomei)

Marion Cotillard is the face of Dior and she, more than anyone else, has been rocking the catalog of couture and ready to wear. This strapless and long skirt combo is French fashion's version of casual cute.

Marisa Tomei worked choppy stripes and ankle monitor pumps, honey.

But the best of the best, HAS to be Leelee Sobieski: ladylike, sleek lines and a devil may care nonchalance. Ohh la la, darlin!

The Yuk

(Emma Watson)                                (Jessica Biel)                      (Jennifer Lawrence)

Emma Watson has the excuse of being too young to remember that awful 90's pants under a dress trend. However, I assume she has a mirror?

Side well pockets? Yes, because women want girth added to their hips. And the length of this mess is making Jessica Biel look short and stumpy.

Wow. Jennifer Lawrence. Wow.

Gwen Stefani Becomes More and More Like Madonna...

Gwen Stefani hit the MTV European Music Awards with her ska 90's band No Doubt last night in Frankfurt, Germany

Dressed in her lady-of-a-certain-age draped silks on the red carpet, the transformation into Madonna really is visible

but it was on stage that it was clear that it's more than the material, girl, that makes the Madge

From the tall boots, to the menswear influence and fishnets, and, of course, the controversial finger/gun posing, Mrs. Rossdale is channeling her inner Ms. Ciccone like bananas!

Little Boots Keeps Me Wanting More

2009's 'Hands' Lp from Little Boots hooked me like a parasite you get walking around barefoot where you got no business walkin' barefoot and I've been longing for the followup hit of sonic smack.

Well, my wait is inching close to complete.

First came "Every Night I say a Prayer" with its 90's dance routines

Then you convinced me to wear my 'Headphones' on the dance floor

(The multi-collared blouse, the metallic shift dresses.... oh British fashion!)

And cheeky monkey, between the Voguing above and the peepshow below, don't think I don't notice all your homages to Madonna all up in your videos.

Why, why can't you tour the whole of  US and not just California?! Dang!

Although good excuse to go back to Barcelona for your October dates... (Of course you're playing Barcelona!)

The Righteous Life of that Ridic Louis Vuitton Hat

Constance Jablonski covers the September 2012 Harper's Bazaar Australia in Louis Vuitton

The same one Marc Jacobs showed back in March for Louis Vuitton.

"Surely, this hat won't catch on?!" he joked

Afterall, think of all the carrion of those who've tried and failed:

Veruca Salt Predicted Cat Viral Video Supremacy

Long before there was Buzzfeed and Youtube to while away the long work hours, there was Buzz Bin band Veruca Salt

Kelly Hu in Jason Takes Manhattan

(Hu gonna die? YOU gonna die!)

Long before she was a Lady Deathstrike, she struck out in "Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan" in an eerily on-trend for 2012 getup of bright colored pants

Kris Kross suspenders

and leggings with flats (ugh, why must the 90's be back?!)

Jason didn't care too much for this look either

Happy Friday the 13th everyone!

Rihanna's 90's Redux

Everything about Rihanna's new single "We Found Love" from the Haddaway-esque title to the acid house repetition reminds me of my 90's wasted youth stealing away into warehouses to dance til the wee hours despite homeroom looming just 2 hours after.

Now the video's here and surprise, surprise Miss Fenty has cobbled together a diverse collage of iconic 90's movie imagery:

After a meta-serious voice-over from model Agyness Deyn, a tragic narrative unfolds of two wiry and impossibly beautiful youths flip-flopping between stylistic moping and hoodlum-lite activities like riding around in shopping carts knocking things off the grocery shelves while self-destructing in a sea of bleached hair, shared baths, drug-shot eyes and other mindless mischief that could be easily solved by full time employment.

The funny thing? I like it (Love her look in the car storm off scene! Doin' it!). But then I am firmly on team Rhi-Rhi and my Scottish producer boyfriend Calvin Harris can do no wrong. Purr...

Milan, Day One

Milan Fashion Week is up and running with Gucci and Alberta Ferretti amongst the designers showing on Wednesday.

Let's get bitchy!

Mixed prints and gladiator sandals somehow don't feel as fresh as they once did. Maybe I've just seen too many already. Sorry Alberta

The styles Gucci presented were a bit old hat too. Mix of last Spring and Tom Ford era. Not so inspired.

Although this Kelly's mom is a secret coke-head and ruins the mother daughter fashion show look really rides my wave

Aldo Gets in on the Monster Mash

(Aldo turns lemons into poison)

Oh no, the monster platform 90's hybrids have hit the mass stores!

Run!

Hide the children!

(hidy-ola subway ad closeup, if you're the masochist type)
