I Haven't Quit My Day Job

Hey kids, I know I've been in and out here lately. It's been CRAZY BUSY. Writing for a bunch of sites, lining up a September magazine cover interview and planning NYC Fashion Week... oy! But such a good busy. 


Anywho, I'm still working full time too at Bluefly, where I've been writing headlines and captions for our sister site, Belle & Clive. Check out some of my favorites

Crimes of Photoshop: 'Cover' Blown

This here Cover Girl ad featuring Taylor Swift has been banned by the US's National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus Claims (this big old gasbag of a title has been condensed to the unfortunate acronym, NAD) for making erroneous

' "superior performance claims" such as "2X more volume" and "20 percent lighter" that simply couldn't be substantiated '

What?! An ad lied to me? NO!I fully believe that skinny mid-western white girl got her drag queen lashes from a tube of magic elixir. Next you're gonna tell me her hair isn't that windswept at all times! 

Folks, news alert: the fashion and beauty industry is selling you Photoshop, not wrinkle cream and trouser suits. 

Major kudos to the Gov't for taking to task bold faced liars about the power of dime store mascara, but I hope this doesn't spiral into warnings against Miu Miu ads featuring train tracks. Cuz you don't want these NAD's all up in your face. 

Paper Bag It

Spring 2012 saw a lot of trends, friends, but one to embrace is the paper bag waist (evidently this post will take the form of a limerick. Who knew?) 

Above, Miuccia Prada crafted a periwinkle pencil skirt at Miu Miu with an exaggerated emphasis on the paper bag waistline. The narrow waist is the focus with solid basic top here, but a printed top could be a playful partner for the more adventurous. 

Meanwhile Roksanda Ilinicic chose the opposite end of the color wheel and opposite end of a lady to highlight. This is all leg lengthening, easy breezy maxi style skirting with a subtle paper bag waistline. Throw on your highest heels and Mami long legs will be your new neighborhood nickname. 

Of course the easiest way to incorporate this new style into your wardrobe is with the holdover pleated, roomier pant. Very Katharine Hepburn goes to the office, try these pants from Chris Benz for a fresh take on Monday morning dressing.

Well it's out loud now, all over her Spring 2012 collection. Yes it's a little referential, but a lot of designers have included winks at Miu Miu's twee style of chic.

Happening Today: Housing Works Chelsea Spring Preview

Just a reminder everyone that we're in the thick of Spring Preview at Housing Works.

All new designer merchandise has been donated to all 11 Housing Works locations in New York (plus an online Spring Preview day on St Patrick's day).

Entry is free for members or $10 for non-members. You can become a member on site and receive free admission, so as always membership support has its privileges.

The Crosby Street and East 77th Street stores have had their opening but the Chelsea store opens today at 5pm for one of the most eagerly expected collections. Get there and grab that Miu Miu for me!

*Housing Works Chelsea is located at 143 W 17th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenue)

How About Miu Miu's Apples?

Hey there, Lolita. How about I walk you home from school?

Resort collections have flooded the stores right now as we patiently await Spring and Miu Miu has some of my favorite pieces. The whole line is great but the killer accessories emblazoned with blurry edged digitalized apple prints and in sharp plastic pops of acid color (both reminiscent of elementary school art class) are what really make my heart skip

A vivid belt in fire engine red accented with a pop art halved apple is a great way to refresh your sweater and pencil skirt combinations this late in the Winter game and then is a keen way to belt a shirt-dress come Spring
