This month has seen a lot of It Can't All Be Dior favorites making major comebacks and we're gonna feature them this week for doin' they dooz.
First up is my girl, Kelly Rowland. Remember that moment during Beyonce's Super Bowl performance when Kelly shot up from the floor looking like sex in a sleek banged wig? Well girlfriend really capitalized on that moment this year with a sassy string of singles that lead up to the release of her fourth solo album, "Talk A Good Game"
And Ms. Kelly know her audience, honey. This record is filled with R&B summer jams and slow baby makers
"Cause if you give me your love
Then I give you mines back
If you get to acting up
I cut you off like that"
there's shots of euro dancey numbers for the gays
"Everybody's
Somebody's
Freak"
and even a Beyonce and Michelle colab for her pop starved fans (who affectionately call themselves "Rowland Stones")
I can say I'm done in a million ways
But let's not beat around the bush
Let's cut to the chase
You changed, I changed but it's too late "Talk A Good Game" is a nice grab bag of jams slow and fun, and while at 15 tracks it could have benefited from an edit, I appreciate how much effort Rowland put into this album. I'm not sure there's another crossover like 'Motivation' on here, but it will certainly please her fans and to that I say: Keep on Rowland on!
Two weeks ago I saw a drag queen in a turban perform to 'Royal T" by Italian house DJ Crookers featuring Róisín Murphy and I had a thought: what happened to that B??? I LOVED her!
This above colab with the sexy video appears to be Rosin's latest output. Sadly this was released in autumn of last year and her last full album, Overpowered, which was brilliant, came out in 2007!
("Just gonna pop out for some milk right quick")
My beloved Irish chanteuse with the wicked style and sly delivery, where have you ran off to? I heard you're having babies, but why not give us more of that sharp Euro trash disco sing-alongs? it is Summer, afterall and this boy has even started "working out" (ie: situps and squats at home. Don't get carried away) and could use some energizing jams. Róisín, rush back to us!
Everyone's gettin' on board Carly Rae Jespen's "Call Me Maybe" as the song of the Summer, but must the lip synch poorly viral video trend continue( with the exception of Hilary Rhoda, who killed it!)
Summer has just begun (and based on the little jacket I'm wearing today, is already on vacation) but it's never too early to try to guess what folks will be shimmying to on rooftops and barbecues alike all season long
I'll be honest, I don't get the appeal of this lesbian coffee shop, hippie jam. Ugh, but it be everywhere.
3. The Wanted "Glad You Came"
Boy bands are back? Well, they never really left the world of British music so no surprise this Brit band is on the scene, but boy if they aren't making a real go of it here in the states.
4. Carly Rae Jespen "Call Me Maybe"
Poppy, addictive little ear worm perfect for gettin' your wiggles out. Just ask Rebecca Minkoff, Hilary Rhoda and Man Repeller who cast their Song of Summer vote with this cheeky little getting ready for the CFDA Awards vid
(Umm.... Hilary Rhoda be real good lip syncer!)
What's y'alls thoughts? What will the song of Summer 2012 be???
It's been a long minute since 'Paris is Burning' and 'Magic'. We've missed you Ladyhawke.
And damn if the new songs we've heard so far including 'Sunday Drive' don't just scream Summer road trips (hopefully ones that go a little smoother than this) and rooftop dancing
Even though still a week away, Memorial Day, here we come with our second favorite New Zealander (Miss A got that one on lock)!
You know the slow boil of a beat took awhile to grow on me, but as all thoughts turn to Fall, I definitely think Kelly Rowland's "Motivation" was the song of the Summer.
Slinky, sweaty and sexy, "Motivation" will hopefully be the song to open Kelly open to a wide audience because this heated jam should have been a huge hit. Or this. Or this.
Summer's coming, kids. You can always tell when all the backyard barbecue impromptu dancing anthems come out
Yelle's dropping her token into the Song of Summer slot with Safari Disco Club, which sounds like the best small business proposal I've heard in a long time. I'll start writing the check now. Especially if this disco is indeed populated with hot Frenchmen in explorer wear. Grrr...
I'm a fashion writer who writes for Bluefly, EDGE Media, VIRAL Fashion, etc. I use "It Can't All Be Dior" as a safe release for my love of coats, cats and cake. Phew!
