Last Nite's Party: Dionne Werewolf and Hall-oween & Oates
(Do you know the way to Union Hall?)
"I give a little scare to you"
"Always something there right behind me"
Honey, these are the too much lyrics of the one and only Dionne Warwick / Burt Bacharach cover band, Dionne Werewolf
Miss MT and I got dressed up all ghoul like and went out for Halloween cover band mischief
And I love how they took all these 60's songs and spooky punned them out, child!
Opening band, Hall-oween & Oates had a full crew and sax player and were bringing saxy back!
And I can go for that! Sure can do.
Man, I can't wait for Halloween again!

Let's Play Catch Up
The one upside of Hurricane Sandy shuttin' the city down is I finally have some time to go through the many, many events of the past month and process them.
So let's play a little catch up with a cute little video of 'The Lamothe House', the hotel we stayed at during our New Orleans trip two weeks ago

You Must be Out of Your Sweet Skull
I'm not one of those faux-punk fashion fags that thinks anything with skulls on it is instantly street cool. But I was struck dead in my tracks by this archaeological quality piece... made of chocolate!
But caution kids, this ain't for bulk distribution to trick or treaters, this quality Belgian chocolate cranium will cost ya!
(Belgian chocolate life like skull from Cannibal Confections(!), $325 at Aha Life, http://www.ahalife.com/product/2251/chocolate-skull/)

Hallow-Green!
Well if you're a little weenie like me and still haven't secured a costume for the big weekend perhaps you can pick up a timely Richard Nixon, Power Rangers or She-Ra costume at today's costume swap.
This is a great chance to go green, upcycle old ish and there's spooky music and face painting and you'll finally found a proper resting place for that Monica Lewinsky costume haunting the back of your closet.

This Year's Mac-O'Lantern
It's that time of year again: The annual pumpkin carving and spooky cookie making party at Stately Grand Street Manor
And this year we had a very special guest: Miss Luna from upstairs!
Cutie! We're her favorite place to visit in the whole apartment building. No surprise considering cookie making is a regular activity and it looks like Halloween everyday!
Thanks for the help making the black cat cookies and pulling the "boogers" out of the pumpkin, little lady.
This Ain't No Bert and Ernie
Mr Taurus and I have been banging our heads together all week long trying to generate a brilliant couples costume this year when we should have just picked up New York Magazine
Dressing as Nicki Minaj and Anna Wintour (odd front row pairing at Carolina Herrera's Spring 2012 show) is a stroke of genius!

How Do You Dress for Pumpkin Patchin'?
Well our first lady wears Marc by Marc Jacobs
And looks pretty amaze doing so
But there's more, and dare I say, something political afoot. Recently Mr. G went to a media "Game Changers" party where a certain Kardashian was named the fashion game changer. Holding back my snickers on that last bit, in this era of "Bitch stole my look" and US Weekly, a string of pearls and a pantsuit aren't gonna cut it as first lady attire anymore and Mrs. Obama knows and embraces that fact. She's a fashion game changer. Along with French First Lady, Carla Bruni, Michelle Obama knows that in this Internet age even something as simple as picking the right pumpkin calls for a certain je ne sais quoi

MAC Loves Playing Dress Up
Dear Halloween costume planners,
In case you didn't know, MAC makeup lets you pile it on for impact, a trick utilized by pop musicians and conceptual artists alike. Just ask Cindy Sherman (the latter), who is the star of MAC's latest campaign just in time for All Hallows
And MAC with its history of tongue in cheek ads and embrace of artists just outside the mainstream actually makes sense as a corporate connection. Go ahead cash that check, Cindy!

An ex boyfriend of mine introduced me to Cindy's portraits where she is the sole subject, art director, photographer and makeup and wardrobe stylist taking on various female archetypes in exaggerated expressions and garish guises. You can see why MAC came a'callin'

Last Nite's Party: A Real Bad Blackout
Last nite Mr. G and I went to a haunted house called "Blackout". Like everything in New York, it's got a gimmick you gotta walk it alone (also like everything in New York, but I digress)
The waiver you sign beforehand also warns that you must wear a protective mask, will be bound at one point and oh yes, you'll encounter "Sexual and violent situations"
"SAFETY" may have been the, ahem, safety word but from the moment I stepped into the dark room with a chair getting a full body massage from behind, the only word that sprang to mind was "yuck"
Ok I promise not to give away any "scares" but let's put it this way, if you haven't had a date in awhile, "Blackout" could suffice as a quick thrill. The sexual content you might encounter is actually all you encounter. Scares like so many creative concepts in modern pop culture are replaced with overt sexuality. Everyone is touching you, poking you, waving they bits around and as my grandmother would have said just "a little too much"
There was nothing scary about any of this, but I honestly did think about yelling out "safety" to end the ick.
One of the more pitiful moments was the room with a bucket ass naked actress chained to the floor. She's writhing around begging you for the key you just had to unpleasantly unearth from the preceding room. I kept saying to myself "Key, honey? You don't need no key, you need a new agent!"
I couldn't believe The New York Times called this disjointed string of gross outs "the extreme theater event of the year". But then a Grey Lady might enjoy a grope in the dark.

Quick reminder of the rules of Blackout: · YOU MUST WALK THROUGH ALONE. You will be prompted to do certain actions. Please do exactly as you're told. This is for your safety. · There is absolutely no speaking allowed inside. You can, however, scream as loud as you'd like.
