It Can't All Be Dior Celebrates Three Years!

It Can't All Be Dior is turning three!

And instead of terrible, it's gonna be hot hot hot!

But in retrospect let's take a look at some of our favorite "Three Makes it a Trend" posts

1. He's a Brick... S***house

Before Solange rocked the Moschino suit in her "Losing You" video

it was just part of a trend we picked up from men's Fall 2012 runways

2. Droppin' Tracks

Holiday 2010 had all kinds of folks
dropping the ball.

Well, actually it was more like they
lights and mics.

3. T**s Be Out

This trend continues on to this day. Every Winter windows show unfortunate broads (and a few gents) that can't come in from the cold.

Solange "Losing You" Makes Me Lose My Cool

Shakin' my ass at my desk.     Co-workers think I nutty

PS: Sol Angel, love the brick print Moschino suit, girl

MOD-schino

Still catching up on Milan Fashion Week since my vacation and so far it feels so dark for a Spring collection especially when retail reported color as such a strong lure for Spring 2012 (hello, color practically brought GAP back from the brink)

Luckily Moschino never fails for playful and fun clothes. This season MOD influences were heavy and these are clothes meant to cheer up consumers inundated with news of economies rocky and faulty

Three Makes it a Trend: Brick S***house

                            (Moschino)                                                                                 (Jean Paul Gaultier)

Men have always felt the pressure to be built like a brick wall, but now that mandate is taking on a whole new meaning with this emerging trend on the Fall 2012 runways.

That Moschino look above would be great as a two piece suit or broken all up (how great a navy lightweight Merino wool turtleneck with those pants) and that hot ginger could sell me anything at Gaultier, but Jeremy Scott cranked up the color for a 90's feeling Pantone facade

Color and pattern are my game, but that is one tough look. I guess you could say the best way to play with this fashion concept is a little with classics or a full suit with balls.

What am I Gonna do With All These Breasts?

The Fall 2012 men's shows heralded a bunch of new directions for us guys these past few weeks, but one that was featured more than a handful of times was an emphasis on double breasted looks

Loose and layered at Raf Simons

Of course references had to be made to the English dandies that nursed this style

                   Burberry Prorsum

                                                                                          Moschino

But there were reinventions specific to 2012 like this single button row at Paul Smith

And clever double breasted inclusions in unexpected places

Like grand desert war influenced capes at Dior

Drape front double breasted shirting at Dries Van Noten

And Napoleonic but slim cut bike influenced plush velvet vests at Balmain

Double breasted styles are not for everyone. Unless deliberately oversize like the Dior and Raf examples,  Skinny! is the operative word.

I have a glen plaid double breasted coat I've been wearing for a while that falls beautifully in trend (I love when that happens) although I wonder how many men will cop a feel for double breasted fashions. It's not an easy style to implant without looking like a boob.

The End of the Road: Filene's Basement

When I first moved to New York City I was a broke little fashion editor. I had dreams of fancy fashions but nightmares of rent, laundry money and subway fare.

On a "market appointment" one lazy Summer work day I snuck into the Filene's Basement in Union Square to pinch some free a/c. Upstairs I stumbled across the most amazing Moschino pants with lobsters dancing up and down the legs. You know, the typical Moschino whimsy

(Looked a little something like this pair on Ebay right now)

Anywho, I reminisce as the news has hit that Filene's has filed bankruptcy unable to compete with the proliferation of flash sale sites, resale shops and fast fashion.

Now where will boys on budgets find tacky fashions they'll treasure?

Well, for a Summer at least.

Here's to my favorite basement memory!

Strawberry Alarm Frock!

What's with all the gourmand couture?

Whatever the case, Moschino Cheap & Chic is out right daring children not to run up to you and scratch n'sniff.

Time to Pick Your Top Model All Star!

They still wanna be on top

(The cast of Top Model All Stars Revealed)

And who can blame them? Fame like this is addictive. And while you're busy dating Jim Carrey or documenting your real modelling career in Asia, these ladies are back for another round of masochism with Tyra.

Let's do a rundown of the hopefuls getting their second chance at that coveted contract with Cover Girl

Cycle 1: Shannon

Otherwise known as the pretty religious one. Runner up to Adrianne Curry.

Chances: She better start praying.

Cycle 2: Camille

Delusional Camille thought herself a somebody, baby and told Tyra her walk would make her famous. Tyra told her to walk.

Chances: Post Top Model she hired a full time bodyguard for "protection". Maybe he can rough up the other girls?

Cycle 4: Brittany

Blow up doll look-a-like and Janice Dickinson look-a-like (same thing?) Brittany made up for her porn star looks with a great sense of humor. Like Jenny McCarthy, minus the career longevity.

Chances: She's not Singled Out for the win.

Cycle 5: Bre

Remember "Granola Bar-Gate"? Well don't let that silly drama eclipse the fact that this B can walk and they've brought her back to teach the girls. Will her strut be enough?

Chances: She's already "in" with Tyra (even working on the Tyra Show). Now she has to remain in the house. And, girl, leave the Red Bulls alone.

Cycle 5: Lisa

Umm... didn't she wear a diaper and false teeth and talk to plants? And then go to Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew?

Chances: Purely on the show for drama.

Cycle 9: Bianca

Anger management girl. Every show needs one (sadly, usually tied in with token angry black girl).  Since leaving Top Model has had public brawls with other d-listers. Sad, cuz she ok pretty.

Chances: She has a fighting chance if she can hold her temper.

Cycle 10: Dominique

Drag-a-licious I believe is what the judges said when she got the cut the first time.

Chances: Never count out a man in a dress, honey!

Cycle 11: Isis

Isis never lived up to her potential in her season and let her nerves get the best of her. Has she become the goddess she's meant to be since her first go at Top Model?

Chances: If you're so "fierce" that Tyra pulls you from the background of one season's photo shoot, you've got the Charisma, Uniqueness and Talent. Now bring the Nerve!

Cycle 11: Sheena

The funny thing about the dud of a season that was Cycle 11 is how my two faves on this list come from it. Sheena is a punk rocker indeed cuz she didn't give an F and just wanted to laugh and wear silly clothes ("It's Moschino"). Love her!

Chances: Sheena take, Sheena take a bow. Cuz everybody's rootin' for you, girl!

Cycle 12: Allison

My friend, Mr Dressy Jeans, loves her. I'm a fan of that big doe eyed doll look, but hopefully she's gotten a little more pep since we last saw her.

Chances: If she can deliver some more personality, then the eyes have it.

Cycle 13: Laura

From the Shortie season, Laura was the country hick with Big City ambitions. She came in second, but is she gunnin' for the gold this go?

Chances: I think baby girl's gonna come up short. Again.

Cycle 14: Angelea

This girl was craze. And I liked it. Although that bit where she recreated her entrance into da' club is still painful to watch during Oxygen Top Model marathons. Will she embarrass herself again?

Chances: Yes. She will.

Cycle 15: Kayla

I had to look her up. No idea who she was. But this season was also one of the worst ever, Vogue Italia or not.

Chances: If you're not memorable....

Cycle 16: Alexandria

Didn't we just get rid of this B? She's all weird mouth, oddly shaped skull. And Jade-like self-denial and cockiness. And if you're gonna do Jade-like, why not bring back the REAL thing?!

Chances: Jade! Jade! Jade!

So there you have it. I'm team Isis, Sheena and Bre. Who are you bettin on?

MSNBC Came a Callin' and I Wore...

My boss was interviewed by MSNBC Thursday about being a successful small business owner and I snagged me some on-air time too. Had to look the part! So threw on my trusty coral cords paired with a pale grey dress shirt and vintage jean jacket. The Moschino scarf was a double win for the mighty blustery day as nothing beats a good scarf flappin' in the wind.

Wearers O' the Green

It's Saint Patrick's Day and the combination of Irish heritage and showman in me loves any excuse to celebrate while wearing a silly outfit. However, there's a lot of naysayers out there that ballyhoo the color green and it's fashion savoir faire.

Well, naysayers, take a look at this list of clever clovers and tell me it isn't keen being green.

1. Angelina Jolie

Workin' it at this year's Golden Globes like an Adrian clad leading lady. Her face just reads "Bow down to your Queen" and she's earned your serfdom in this emerald Versace Fab-o-Gown.

2. Heather Duke

This envious little sycophant wore her true colors on her sleeve. Sure when she went popular, she copped Heather Chandler's signature red, but inside she was still one mean green mother.

3. Hannibal Barca

The Carthaginian general is most remembered for taking elephants over the Alps, but his military brilliance is studied to this day. One of his favorite strategies was using the terrain to cover his troops in the greenery. Wearin' of the green doesn't just mean the shamrock glasses and "kiss me I'm Irish" t-shirts of the great drunken masses.

4. Green Berets

Speaking of verdant victories, the Green Berets have my vote for sexy soldier. I hope this record covers Gang of Four's "I Love a Man in Uniform"!

5. Liz Taylor

La Liz. She was a fan of Brits with green and Mr Burton (yes, I know he was Welsh) showered her with jewels. The emerald earrings and matching necklace from Bulgari amongst the most famous. Verde, verde nice.

6. The Riddler

Frank Gorshin, my dear, your manic laugh still knocks around in my head and I love your commitment to the character. Now I have a riddle for you: How were you able to leap about in Moschino before Moschino? Jealousy.

7. The Green Power Ranger

The Anti-Cousin Oliver, the addition of the Green Power Ranger grew that ish into a
non-stop monster of a hit with legs like a Fosse chorus girl.

That's What New Friends are For

"This is the guy who keeps me in couture!"

-Mr. D.J., a favorite client of mine at work, whom I randomly ran into at a karaoke bar in midtown this weekend.

Goes to show, love buckets, that you never know where you might meet or meet up with a friend and this whole being open for Lent attitude means open to the location too!

Thanks for the Ad: Fall 2010 Fashion

It's one of my favorite times of the year again: September Fashion Magazine Time!

Now the editorial part long ago lost its allure to me after far too many disappointingly silly actresses against white backdrops modeling clothes that could be appealing if on a real model and not some dishwater tanned blonde girl from the latest interchangeable romantic comedy (this month's roster of Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston excel at proving my point!)

(Awkward pose with claw hands in a kimono)                                  (Random Barbara homage)

So let's look at the ads! Cuz they still sell a fantasy land where you wear heels and and a full on Look to lounge on fire escapes and traipse around the city doing fabulously chic and indeterminate tasks

I've never been crazy about Natalia V (and that pose is sooooo Benny Ninja episode of America's Top Model), but DAMN if Karen and Christy aren't making a dramatic case for purchasing a vanity and a full skirt

Anja missed her train Friday afternoon, too wrapped up instead pondering why a raven is like a writing desk

Every August, the streets of New York City are filled with European tourists. Misleading ads like this are why every single one of those Euros is holding bags from mall brands like American Eagle, Express and Old Navy

Speaking of Old Navy, kids,  Domenico and Stefano spent a lot of money to look real cheap. And that strategy only works for Dolly

I see Anna Wintour advised Ann Taylor to dump the models and sip from the dishwater blonde actress cup

I was a fan of all the color blocking and 60's futurism Nicolas Ghesquiere used for Fall 2010, but this ad looks like you forced your sloppy, bratty teenage daughter to go to Sears for the annual family portrait

I LOVE Angela Lindvall!

Not a fan of Guess, but kinda loving this rockabilly meets Gina Lollobrigida imagery

And Moschino got the Colonial for Fall memo, although my version will have a whole lot less c**k rings involved. Yikes!
