Give Me Your Checkbook: Marni for H&M Heels More Expensive than Real Marni on Ebay

Today the latest brain scrambling designer colab-o hits the shelves and if it's anything like Missoni, Wu or Versace before, Marni's op prints and Scandinavian style clogs will sell out faster than an indie pop band with and Itunes commercial.

But ladies, if saving $$ is the motive for your ravenous retail rager, might I suggest you take a breath and a peek at Ebay where straight up Marni is going for a lot less than the H+M versions and you can save a bruise or two

The real deal Marni heels on ebay, $76

VS

Marni for H&M heels, $110

Do a little searching from the comfort of your desk and score without any of the "why did I push that lady down in the middle of a crowded store on a Thursday" guilt.

The End of the Road: Filene's Basement

When I first moved to New York City I was a broke little fashion editor. I had dreams of fancy fashions but nightmares of rent, laundry money and subway fare.

On a "market appointment" one lazy Summer work day I snuck into the Filene's Basement in Union Square to pinch some free a/c. Upstairs I stumbled across the most amazing Moschino pants with lobsters dancing up and down the legs. You know, the typical Moschino whimsy

(Looked a little something like this pair on Ebay right now)

Anywho, I reminisce as the news has hit that Filene's has filed bankruptcy unable to compete with the proliferation of flash sale sites, resale shops and fast fashion.

Now where will boys on budgets find tacky fashions they'll treasure?

Well, for a Summer at least.

Here's to my favorite basement memory!

Doin' It: Vintage Hermes Robe on Ebay

I don't wear a robe, but boy oh boy if I did, I'd traipse around the apartment in a cheetah print terry cloth hooded number from Hermes. Bring on the baths, darlin', cuz I'm never leaving the house! Meow!

(Vintage Hermes terrycloth robe, size small, $489, at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200642982634#ht_5188wt_1344)

"It Can't All Be Dior" featured on The Inside Source

Did you see "It Can't All Be Dior" made the cover of style blog, The Inside Source? Yeah, my blog's kinda major like that!

A writer friend of mine, Laura Neilson, did this great piece about me, my writing and my love for all things design, especially when found for a song on Ebay.

(Some of my heart's desires... right now)

There's a great little round up on things I'm trolling the halls of Ebay for right now including that Oleg Cassini memoir I nabbed and half way devoured

Thanks so much to Laura and The Inside Source for the love!

(Click on logo to go directly to The Inside Source or link below)

I guess sometimes it CAN all be Dior!

Reoccurring Lust: Mrs. Meyer's Secret Scents

(Where the H can I find the rhubarb?!)

Last nite I played one of my favorite games: let's troll the internet for new Mrs. Meyer's flavors they've leaked without fanfare (yeah I'm one of those guys who gets his kicks scouring household cleaning products online late at nite. Don't judge me.)

This brand notoriously introduces limited edition scents for each season to test them out and see if there's an audience. Basil became such a hit it's part of the regular lineup now and I've seen a whole lot more of Honeysuckle recently

Well in the wee hours (Ok, 11:30pm. I told you not to judge me!) I struck gold and unearthed these two new scents:

Cranberry

Snickerdoodle

How did I not know of these? I gotta get that B, Mrs. Meyer, on Google alerts!

So far I've found only the candles, but is the whole Clean Day line available cuz that counter spray kicks ass! And who doesn't want a looming scent of nutmeg and cinnamon brown sugar after wiping up the daily coffee tarnishes? That's the kinda sweet, intoxicating smell that makes children want to drink poison.

Sidebar: I 100% question the validity of the lady's claims to be all natural since I've seen it strip crud off that mean old toxic 409 couldn't get, but... details, details.

(Cranberry and Snickerdoodle scented soy candles, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day, $6.99 on Ebay, www.ebay.com)

This is a Run I'd Tag Along for

(image from "Oh No They Didn't!" blog)

How did I miss this? Purrrr-inducing Ryan Gosling has signed on as the lead for a remake of 70's sci-fi fluff with fluffy hair (Hello Farrah!) "Logan's Run"

(not the makeup counter at Bloomingdale's)

Nerd alert confession: I own the original 1976 crapfest on dvd and since I'd never seen it and since it's kinda hokey I can only write it off as a drunken ebay purchase. Thanks midnite and Michelobs (I don't really drink Michelob but Sam Adams lacks alliteration)

This mess was part of the sub-genre of the hugely successful disaster movies of the 70's, the apocalyptic future disaster movie. Other entries include "Soylent Green" (Netflix it, amazing!), "The Omega Man", "The Andromeda Strain", etc.

Anywho, so Gosling is gonna play Logan 5, a government "sleepman" who collects for public sacrifice the citizens when they reach the undesirable old age of 30. I know a few people who date this way

(take a ride on the carousel)

(Dante much?)

In the original Run, Michael York had about as much sex appeal as a wet sheepdog on a ratty old plaid dog pillow passing gas, but Gosling should bring a wry, sharp hunkiness to the role

("He's not even cute")

However, is he mayhaps a bit too intense? I mean this is some capital silliness here. No great love affairs, no drug addicts, no tumultuous marriages, not much emoting necessary

But a Ryan Gosling in motion is a sexy thing indeed, so this Run should go the distance

Book Club: Eyes of Laura Mars

Timing perfectly with Fashion Week, I'm devouring the novel version of "Eyes of Laura Mars", an admitted 'late nite drunken Ebay purchase' by Mr. G.

Now if you haven't seen this amazing movie that the book is based on (yes, you heard that right: the book is based on the movie!) well why do you even read my blog???

(The movie poster in French. Maybe if I watched it in another language it wouldn't be
so bad?)

Faye Dunaway plays photographer Laura Mars obsessed with producing slick commercial images of violence against stunning women, a not at all hidden homage to Helmut Newton.

Well, wouldn't you know it, even with all her work commitments piling up, all of sudden Ms. Mars starts witnessing first hand though a killer's eyes, attacks on her co-workers

(Pop them peepers!)

The movie makes no effort to make any damn sense of why or how, but they tried to flesh it out a bit with a tacked on history of E.S.P. storyline for Laura, but again, none of that matters. What's remarkable to me about the book is how they managed to nail Dunaway's cadence on the printed page. You can practically hear her beat these sentences out of her perfect pout

(oh yeah, there's a midget and a sorta Lady Day-esque outfit too... someone tell me what the Hell is going on in this movie???)

Hopefully the book ends differently than the movie, cuz that "twist ending" was pretty clunky and obvious.

Until then, here's a fun little video I found on YouTube that actually makes the movie look artsy. Enjoy.
