It Can't All Be Dior Celebrates Three Years!

It Can't All Be Dior is turning three!

And instead of terrible, it's gonna be hot hot hot!

But in retrospect let's take a look at some of our favorite "Three Makes it a Trend" posts

1. He's a Brick... S***house

Before Solange rocked the Moschino suit in her "Losing You" video

it was just part of a trend we picked up from men's Fall 2012 runways

2. Droppin' Tracks

Holiday 2010 had all kinds of folks
dropping the ball.

Well, actually it was more like they
lights and mics.

3. T**s Be Out

This trend continues on to this day. Every Winter windows show unfortunate broads (and a few gents) that can't come in from the cold.

Should Metro Cards Get Commercial Makeovers?

(Photo: MTA.info)

The MTA, perpetually struggling for money (well, at least since 2006) is getting a makeover and it's starting with everyone's favorite purveyor of colorful pants, The GAP

One in ten new metrocards purchases will be shellacked in GAP drag to celebrate the newly remodelled 34th Street store. And the best part?  The card is worth 20% off any purchase at any GAP. (Here's your chance to nab some of that great Saturday's colab!)

More money for The MTA and in your new colorful corduroy pockets? Win/Win!

What's your take on this soon to be reoccurring trend?

MOD-schino

Still catching up on Milan Fashion Week since my vacation and so far it feels so dark for a Spring collection especially when retail reported color as such a strong lure for Spring 2012 (hello, color practically brought GAP back from the brink)

Luckily Moschino never fails for playful and fun clothes. This season MOD influences were heavy and these are clothes meant to cheer up consumers inundated with news of economies rocky and faulty

Aquascutum Will Still Hum

Venerated but troubled British luxury line, Aquascutum may have found the answer to its money woes in Chinese investment firm YGM, which already owns a vast majority.

Now with the acquisition of the British ready to wear division, the brand will be completely in pocket

Still big in Europe, 'Aqua' will be the newest addition to YGM's growing fashion roster (they already own another fabled label, Guy Laroche) and the latest in new Asian markets investing in storied Western fashion houses.

This is a trend that has only just begun and an exciting announcement for other houses that are on the verge of irrelevance (see: since 2001 Taiwanese media mogul Shaw-Lan Wang has revitalized Lanvin with 100% support of Alber Elbaz's creative vision) or need dusting off (just this week WWD reported another French fashion fave of yesterday, Mainbocher, being spruced up for potential buyers)

Having built their fortunes (like many British labels) on water resistant men's outerwear and suiting, Aquascutum pulled a GAP and tried to make itself hip only to alienate its core clientele. Now, after three years of losses, this plan failed and Aquascutum was on the brink of bankruptcy and desperately needed this last minute rescue.

To be continued...

Three Makes it a Trend: Visible Tracks

Girl, never let them see you sweat and never let a track be exposed. These are golden rules of style, but during this holiday season stores embraced the visible cord look and let what was once unseemly wiring show.

But what's with this new aesthetic? What is it trying to say? Is this supposed to be industrial, minimal and exposed or disorderly and bohemian? Let's take a look

(GAP at Astor Place knows grey knit scarves need a little spotlighting to look bright and new and the rigging is a graphic distraction but I'd be tiffed if I was that obscured girl in the ad)

(Urban Outfitters in NoHo may wanna keep that dog from gnawing on the cords. We've all seen "Christmas Vacation")

(Aldo is a mishmash of one part old time radio with a healthy helping of "Lucky Star" Madonna and a dash of very Now detectable wiring and bedazzled mic. What a mix!)

Somehow It's More Cold Outside Now, Baby

Before Santa comes let's have a visit from the Spirit of Christmas Past

Picture it: 2008 and GAP ads were still fun little tidbits filled with pop cultural references and surprise celeb "gets".

The annual Holiday ads were particularly happy little jaunts that just happened to be selling striped merino wool sweaters

In "Baby, It's Cold Outside", part of a collection of GAP duets that year, Selma turns the tables on Rainn with my favorite sorta Chistmassy but mostly sexually harassing song. Rainn gets in the last quip though with a final "no" that's less "means no" and more "nuh uh girl"

And what the hell is that double double boil and trouble he's drinking? CLEARLY roofied!

Oh GAP, where has this merry spirit gone? Now it's all so cold and grey

(although go Yaya! Make dat money, boo!)

In Case You Forgot How Jeans Work

GAP so kindly has a new ad campaign designed for those of us who forgot what exactly we're to do with our denim.

And while I'm not sure what "wing it" means really, I enjoy the reminder to "wash it". I personally have ignored that direction for years, thank you, and that's why my fade and fit never wrecks. My advice: "don't wash it".

Anywho, here's the campaign that's flooding Soho right now along with the third day in a row of heavy rain

(might I suggest you listen to your own advice here, GAP)

Why Haven't We MET?

It's almost May and the usual din surrounding the annual Costume Institute Ball at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is mysteriously non-existent right now even though it takes place on Monday May 3rd.

Granted the theme of the current exhibit, 'American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity', is a bit  uninspired (witness this high school student looking collage on VOGUE.com)

And has GAP even announced its tie-in designer colab yet?

I hope it's not this sad Coachella clothing attempt?!

Is the recession killing off The Met Ball?!
