Project Runway All Stars: Just Give Me the Light

So very Storm (nerd alert) meets Silver Surfer (ooh), my only question is which unnamed artist that Pharell "works with' will be sporting this look? Hmm, Kelis?

AUSTIN

MONDO

Just one of many Mortal Kombat messes

Very astute assessment Pharell. And I thought you were just gonna be eye candy

Purr in your Tims and your lady cardigan.

Man, as the competition winds down, the tempest between our two designer sprites is really heating up

Mondo even got his s**t talk on about Austin this week!

But that didn't help his score as Austin takes the lead this week with

AUSTIN        5

MONDO       4

Nerds and Kitties "United"!

I love you Pete and the Pirates. That "Mr Understanding" song from a minute back was a regular jam and a smile still draws upon my face when it shuffles up on the old I-pod.

Now you've gone and made more cute tunes with even cuter videos featuring cute nerds and cats

I'm checking out rings and practicing vows and we've never even met. Purrr.... (pun and no pun intended!)

Found on Twitter: Stuarts London

Yesterday Stuarts London started following me on Twitter. According to their Twitter profile they're

 "a retro & Heritage fashion follower's paradise"

So you know I had to check that out! My abridged want list is as follows:

1. Barbour Tartan Holdall

Now the description has "wheelie" in it which makes me nervous as I'm more a classic luggage than one you can hear going over textured floors and grates. But the pull along parts are detachable for a gentleman who prefers style over sloth.

(Barbour cotton plaid with leather trim bag, £249.00 at Stuarts London, http://www.stuartslondon.com)

2. John Smedley Peregrine Basket Weave T Shirt

I'm a little guy, so I can pull off this knitted t shirt in a way that is less bottle service and Hummers and more Vespas and La Dolce Vita. I love the knit and I'll confess I looked up "Peregrine" on MerriamWebster.com (sidebar: love that site! Have it bookmarked.
Nerd Alert!) and the definition is "having a tendency to wander". Now Stuarts London has supplied me with new vocab and a desirable not so static knit.

(John Smedley 100% cotton basket weave t shirt, £116.00 at Stuarts London, http://www.stuartslondon.com)

3. Farah "The Beckett" Shirt in Tomato

Yesterday a client of mine was enquiring about the fit and make of a navy Pauw skirt. Her questions, however, were falling on deaf ears as I was making mental notes to pinch her style and pick up a short sleeve chambray in a reddish pink immediately and pair it with navy even faster! So chic in that French farmer way.

(Farah slim fit chambray shirt, available in blue and tomato, £45.00 at Stuarts London, http://www.stuartslondon.com)

4. Baracuta "James Dean" Jacket

Guess I'm not the only one on this perpetual hunt...

((Baracuta cotton canvas jacket, available in red and light khaki, £100.00 at Stuarts London, http://www.stuartslondon.com)

So, review? While they won't be usurping Merriam Webster from my main bookmark bar, they are indeed a paradise of men's stylish finds and will be added to my e-commerce folder. Pray now that my credit card doesn't find its way to Stuarts London too often.

Time to Wash Your Woolies

(While filthy, maybe he shouldn't wash by hand)

Ok it's Spring (sorta...) and time to put your wools and cashmeres away, but eww.... those sweaters are a bit crudded up with remnants of Old Man Winter. Whatta ya do? Who wants to pay to dry clean all those? Ching-ching.

Answer: wash that thing yourself! Who knew you could wash cashmere sweaters? Well the gals behind The Laundress did

Two Cornell University educated women (both got degrees in "Fiber Science and Apparel Management". How about them credentials!) frustrated with high dry cleaning bills and ruined treasured clothes, they took matter into their own hands and created eco-friendly laundry line, The Laundress in 2004

It has since  developed into a whole line of sweater shampoos and après laundry cream for your hands. In fact the line has grown into a whole lifestyle brand with beauty and home and gift items. Go ahead girls!

This is a great example of entrepreneurship but my bougie bell is ringing full blast. I'ma stick to good old fashioned Woolite

(Yes girl, get that industrial bucket! I got a closet full of sweaters to wash)

Below is a helpful video from The Laundress(es) on how to fight grime the old fashioned way with elbow grease and a wash bucket. Plus my secret weapon of cheapness masquerading as "environmental", a drying rack (outside of blankets too big for my Chinatown apartment, I air dry everything, a frugal tip passed down from my momma)

This actually looks fun to the nerdy DIY side of me and perfect for a rainy day activity. Now if only we had some rainy days....

I've Been Naughty

Have I mentioned I have a nerdy side? Probably doesn't need illuminating, eh? You can smell the nerd a mile away I bet. Anywho, I do and one of the keys of this is how much video games can tickle my little heart. Obsessive gameplay creates a focus that eliminates such social niceties like listening to friends, answering my mom's phone calls and avoiding tardiness for parties. I'm transfixed and it's gonna take more than the promise of open bar to unhinge me.

The latest glue trap is a game Mr G picked up a year ago but that picked me up just recently: Naughty Bear

You play Naughty Bear a social outcast on Perfection Island. He tries to bridge the social gap with the in crowd of teddy bears after they "forget" to invite him to Daddles' birthday party. But instead of warm welcomes he gets icy degrading laughter from guests Chubby and Giggles

(Lesson here, kids: don't be a snotty b***h)

Fine. Be that way, but there will be hell to pay

It's cartoon teddy bear revenge time!

(First they dance....)

(Then they die!)

That's right, for the crime of public mockery you exact a sweet murderous revenge on the crew of cute

The game smartly lets you use both environment to murder maliciously

(Throw another bear on the barbie!)

and the bears' own fear of Naughty to drive them crazy! Drive them so far over the edge and they take matters into their own hands

(Nothing can stop Naughty, not the FBI, the PTA....)

Trust me nothing relieves the tensions of the day like beating the stuffing out of some cliquey, elitist bears.

Smash them, bash them, now they're history!

If I haven't already sold you on, this trailer will cement the deal

This is a Run I'd Tag Along for

(image from "Oh No They Didn't!" blog)

How did I miss this? Purrrr-inducing Ryan Gosling has signed on as the lead for a remake of 70's sci-fi fluff with fluffy hair (Hello Farrah!) "Logan's Run"

(not the makeup counter at Bloomingdale's)

Nerd alert confession: I own the original 1976 crapfest on dvd and since I'd never seen it and since it's kinda hokey I can only write it off as a drunken ebay purchase. Thanks midnite and Michelobs (I don't really drink Michelob but Sam Adams lacks alliteration)

This mess was part of the sub-genre of the hugely successful disaster movies of the 70's, the apocalyptic future disaster movie. Other entries include "Soylent Green" (Netflix it, amazing!), "The Omega Man", "The Andromeda Strain", etc.

Anywho, so Gosling is gonna play Logan 5, a government "sleepman" who collects for public sacrifice the citizens when they reach the undesirable old age of 30. I know a few people who date this way

(take a ride on the carousel)

(Dante much?)

In the original Run, Michael York had about as much sex appeal as a wet sheepdog on a ratty old plaid dog pillow passing gas, but Gosling should bring a wry, sharp hunkiness to the role

("He's not even cute")

However, is he mayhaps a bit too intense? I mean this is some capital silliness here. No great love affairs, no drug addicts, no tumultuous marriages, not much emoting necessary

But a Ryan Gosling in motion is a sexy thing indeed, so this Run should go the distance
