Let's Play Catch Up

The one upside of Hurricane Sandy shuttin' the city down is I finally have some time to go through the many, many events of the past month and process them.

So let's play a little catch up with a cute little video of 'The Lamothe House', the hotel we stayed at during our New Orleans trip two weeks ago

Sick Day Oscar Review

Ugh. Head hurts. Nose stuffed and coughing. Gross. But here's my Tussin soaked thoughts on Oscar fashion

The GOOD

Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab

I gasped and grabbed my sister when we saw her in the audience stealing every shot she snuck into. This B always looks good and in my fantasy life we're BFF's throwing back brews in dive bar. Maybe she's not wearing Elie Saab in that fantasy.

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

Been killin' it all awards season long. And enough of 'she know how to dress for her shape'. B know how to dress! And I love a lady loyal to a designer.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

Love her or hate her (and God knows folks hate), Gwyn knows how to work a sleek look. This Tom Ford capsule style sheath and cape feels forward in a way that no Marchesa can.

The BAD

The Oscars this year were so neutral that something as simple as body placement wins a normal best on the worst

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

Weirdo.

The UGLY

Melissa Leo in Reem Acra

Boy this was yuk. When she got up to present I shouted "a shirtdress? Really, girl?" The full view ain't much better. In her defense ML was never known for her style.

Where Have I Been? Where Has Diego Luna Been?!

I never see much of my former celeb boyfriend, Diego Luna, ever since we broke up. We had such a sweet run and he was the first in a string of beautiful brown boys that stole my heart. But soon it was 2004 and he'd just completed that superfluous Dirty Dancing sequel and alas, I'd moved on to Fabrizio from The Strokes.

Well now my former sweetie is poppin' up in Katy Perry videos

I'm obviously not on top of  the Perry video grind or else I would have realized this when this video came out in November, but this brush with loves past still gives me pause

Diego looks like his charming, goofy self posing in hats and vintage Persian lamb coats, all scruffy and shaggy haired and adorable

The dramatic Mustang crash scene only refuels this French cinema lover's passion for my little Mexican cutie

And wouldn't you know it, like my longing, Diego's spirit proves eternal!

Enjoy!

Is Lana Del Ray Tired of Playing "Video Games" ?

This weekend internet sensation Lana Del Ray was the musical guest on SNL

Needless to say this was not the intended grand debut and all the people who didn't know her before now think of her in infamy.

Most biting, people said she couldn't sing.

I've never had a hit single, so I can't comment officially here, but just imagine flogging the same old jam over and over like a piece of stale chewing gum. Perhaps Del Ray's premier proffer, "Video Games" has lost its flavor for her. That would explain why she toyed with the composition of the song to mixed fruition.

Take in contrast her first TV performance on Later... with Jools Holland

Notice the note hitting and the emoting. This time her passion is audible and laudable, but then it was months of live tap dancing ago. I am not defending the poor girl with the hit single and media blitz, I'm just wondering aloud. Yes, I think she unprepared and needed more time to season her stage presence, but mayhaps it's telling that the song that has been hers to helm is about indifference (from a lover) and lopsided effort.

It Was the Best (Dressed) of Times...

It's that age old question of any partnership: how to pair well without sacrificing your individuality. In a recent Barney's e-commerce opener, a series of cheeky ads play on that concern while high-lighting pieces from their contemporary designers

There's stand alone info on looks for every life event

And as a couple

Followed by a handy legend of all the key items for Fall for man and woman both

What a brilliant Tale, indeed!

This is a Run I'd Tag Along for

(image from "Oh No They Didn't!" blog)

How did I miss this? Purrrr-inducing Ryan Gosling has signed on as the lead for a remake of 70's sci-fi fluff with fluffy hair (Hello Farrah!) "Logan's Run"

(not the makeup counter at Bloomingdale's)

Nerd alert confession: I own the original 1976 crapfest on dvd and since I'd never seen it and since it's kinda hokey I can only write it off as a drunken ebay purchase. Thanks midnite and Michelobs (I don't really drink Michelob but Sam Adams lacks alliteration)

This mess was part of the sub-genre of the hugely successful disaster movies of the 70's, the apocalyptic future disaster movie. Other entries include "Soylent Green" (Netflix it, amazing!), "The Omega Man", "The Andromeda Strain", etc.

Anywho, so Gosling is gonna play Logan 5, a government "sleepman" who collects for public sacrifice the citizens when they reach the undesirable old age of 30. I know a few people who date this way

(take a ride on the carousel)

(Dante much?)

In the original Run, Michael York had about as much sex appeal as a wet sheepdog on a ratty old plaid dog pillow passing gas, but Gosling should bring a wry, sharp hunkiness to the role

("He's not even cute")

However, is he mayhaps a bit too intense? I mean this is some capital silliness here. No great love affairs, no drug addicts, no tumultuous marriages, not much emoting necessary

But a Ryan Gosling in motion is a sexy thing indeed, so this Run should go the distance

Damnnn! Nicki Minaj Stole this Week's SNL

Sorry I'm about a day behind, but I kinda spent all day yesterday fuming.

But now I'm so ready to shout from the rooftops how much I loved Nicki Minaj this week on SNL. Her sense of humor sparkled as she stole not one but two skits of the evening.

When the Lonely Island music number started with a Max Headroom styled John Waters, I knew we were in for some funny. But Nicki getting her arms T-Rexin' at a beefcake's funeral? F-in' hilarious. Ha ha ha ha ha, pop them peepers

Then they threw her in the mix with a Blaxploitation riff, Bride of Blackenstein. And she played up that combination of Brain of an DMV clerk, nails of a Walgreen's cashier and the mouth of a ho who didn't know her place (that's how she described herself!)

"It's check day! I got an outfit on, I wanna dance, baby. Let's get it!"

The party didn't stop there, cuz when Ms Minaj comes out for performance #2, she's workin' that "real hair" from Blackenstein. Cheeky b, I love your playful way! You know that's part of her official tour wardrobe now

So skillful a comedienne with an up for anything playfulness, for the first time in a minute I was reminded of the promise before she released a mediocre album.

I'ma put my faith back in you, girl. Don't f**k it up.

Paulina Porizkova's Got Claws

(ooh, catfight!)

Paulina Porizkova is a rare bird in these PC and publicist times. Her candor and her willingness to express her opinion (hell, even her HAVING an opinion!) is so refreshingly dishy and wicked

In an article in the NY Post she takes aim at any and all targets including:

Naomi Campbell:   "I have nothing kind to say about Naomi. She was the most obsequious ass kisser"

Giselle Bundchen:   "Giselle is already a goner"

Janice Dickinson:   "She was one of the most beautiful girls...now she looks like a transvestite"

HERSELF:  "When you have used your beauty to get around...once you're over 40, you become invisible. It just feels like the sun went down a little bit. I'm too old to model and I'm too old to act [and] it got a little cloudy outside."

Child, those claws are so firmly extended that I have to assume Mrs Ocasek is going as Freddy Krueger for Halloween!

(one, two Porizkova's coming for you!)

A Perfect Weekend

Mr Taurus took me out to dinner at Maracas Restaurant. Let me tell you, we had a blast! The whole nite had an "anything can happen" special vibe and it was very "me and my man out on the town".

We started with some "Latin Passion" drinks (Yes, yes I know I LOVE the Latin Passion) with a little mermaid straight chillin' in the drink!

("Hello")

It was like the club up in this place. The club and a cotton candy explosion. My kinda joint!

In between the light show, the cut outs, the tacos and chatting with our new friends at the neighboring table... it was a magical evening

(num nums)

(look at this lady!)

(typical)

After a fantastic dinner we ran the city with some of his friends and some of mine

(Miss JB and Me)
.
I felt like a young gent again. Thanks Mr Taurus. And thanks New York!
