One Day, I'm Gonna Wanna Know How it Came to This
Fortunately, I'll have photo documentation of my path to Fat Kid City
(Homemade walnut cocoa brownie, $3 at Colson Patisserie,
374 9th Street at 6th Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn http://www.colsonpastries.com/menu)
I really should be avoiding anything labelled French for FAT
Alas, the French have such a charming way of wording "you gonna die".

Once More with Feeling: Sartorial Soulmates: Michael Caine
With all thoughts going to London this week, I'm re-showing my love for Michael Caine and his sauve brand of British cool.
Hit it!
Hit it!
Child, if all you know of Michael Caine is Alfred in "The Dark Knight", you are missing one stylish O.G.
and nobody got mo' play in his day!
(Oh whomever could be on the other end of Britt Ekland's loveline in "Get Carter" ?)
(Oh Alfie, tell me what it's all about!)
(yes, Nancy Sinatra! Get it!)
well, that's model-actress Shakira Baksh, whom he's been with for 37 years.
Umm.... sexy committed dad much?
Congrats, Michael Caine, you're my current style icon. Don't F' it up!

Good Advice: Mollie Parnis Didn't Do Fast Fashion
“I’ve always had a theory that good designing doesn’t mean dresses you have to throw away every year. Things shouldn’t go out of date overnight.”

Face it: These Eclairs Have a Better Life than You
Fauchon, the venerated French cookie line is giving me my dose of annual "why don't we Americans have the month of August off" envy with their Summer campaign
I mean why am I not sunning and coordinating like this apricot number?
Or being sprinkled with silver leaf like this strawberry-lime lovely about to take a quick dip?
Instead of writing about ill fitting sweaters, I could be sliding up to the bar as cool as a cucumber ---urr, Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Bean.
-sigh- I guess this is how the cookie crumbles...

Book Club: Brave New World
(This is the cover of mine, except I lost the cover. Sad.)
Summer is meant for lazy reading either of the escapist trash variety or a re-read. This time I'm doing a little latter.
Now '1984' is my favorite book and with its future dystopian society, Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World' always gets compared to Orwell's masterpiece. Which is unfortunate.
A: the books are nothing alike.
B: 'BNW' has its own merits, which upon reading as an angsty teen, I wouldn't examine without a "well it's no 1984". Now I can appreciate its own brand of future dystopia.
And never has been the mollifying a whole generation been more relevant as we're in the age of coddling. Mr Huxley must have been looking into his crystal ball at the self esteem and everyone gets an award entitled generation that breaks down at any tiny inconvenience. Perhaps we're all on Soma Holiday right now?

Somebody Snatched up Tickets to See Polly Mellen Speak
Legendary editor Polly Mellen is giving a lecture with Fern Mallis at the 92Y in December and I cannot think of a better birthday present to myself.
Known for being an editor at Harper's Bazaar (back when it was good and not being run into the ground), American Vogue (under her mentor Diana Vreeland) and Allure, she was an early advocate of both Isaac Mizrahi and Todd Oldham.
And she's a real spitfire.
Can't wait. More tickets available: http://www.92y.org/Uptown/Event/Polly-Mellen.aspx

It's Summer; 'Settle Down' with No Doubt
Gwen Stefani and crew are back with their first new album in 11 years but its sound looks even further back to their ska and reggae influences
Not as much of that new wave gloss as 'Return of Saturn' and 'Rock Steady' and Gwen has definitely toned down the over the top costuming of her solo career retiring to her tanks and bad pants combo from the 2000's
Although the Love Angel Music Baby Asian ladies make cameos
As does a L'oreal lip gloss cameo to remind us of the lady's post front-woman career
All in all, I personally prefer the sparkle and shine of late ND / solo Gwen, but I can't deny the ear worm this jam has already crafted in me noggin'.

Friday the 13th Style Icons: Mark from Part 2
In honor of it being July, Summer and all that "America!" ish, let's make this entry of 'Lucky at the Mall, Unlucky at Camp' honoree a real guy next door
This was one of the first times you got to see Jason as the killer and right out the gate he was determined to be an equal opportunity slasher of slutty teens. It may not be The Special Olympics, but including a wheelchair bound victim was Jason's way of doing his part for diversity
Shame Mark's wardrobe weren't a little more diverse consisting mostly of this football jersey-esque top for most of his on-air time
(Man I never did get where exactly the killer is supposed to be in this scene)
Oh and this kid gave great hair. Look at the perfect coif and those full eyebrows. You just know he was modelling Hoverounds on the side
Well until Jason put a machete into that cleft chin. Oops!
Happy Friday the 13th!
