Friday the 13th Style Icons: Melissa from Part 7

("There goes the neighborhood")

I’m a man of many tastes. One minute I can rave about the return to color for Spring and smart tailoring for Fall, the next I’m on a bender of bad movies featuring beheadings. The politics of finding a new creative director for venerable French fashion houses is regular cocktail fodder. Why newfangled blasphemous remakes of Freddy and Michael Myers carry on is a constant debate in the Mr G and me apartment.

Today, on Friday the 13th of May 2011, I’ma bridge the gap. Introducing a new segment I call

“Lucky at the mall, Unlucky at camp”

Our first victim… ahem, I mean model is Miss Melissa from “Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood” aka the one with that telekinetic B who gets all Carrie White on Jason’s ass

Melissa is the epitome of preppy 80’s style straight from The Limited with a platinum sexy mom bob to boot

("You like it? I just got it last nite at The Limited. Like totally blew my allowance")

Cool color sweater girl tops for openly mocking the recently asylum released

(A fashion perfectionist, Melissa confirms the proper way to wear a straight jacket)

White crisp denim that's pristine even when she’s kneeling in the woods eavesdropping on psycho Tina and we met a minute ago but now we’re in love boyfriend, Nick (aka
Dr Craig Wesley from my stories!)

("I love you complete stranger that may have psychological disorders")

And of course the big scene-stealer, that pearl necklace from daddy

Sadly, she takes an axe to the head right at the denouement, but she works it like the accessory pro she was born to be!

(R'uh-r'oh)

Stay tuned for this continued series. The next installment happens in January!

Crash Bland-ing

Last nite while pre-booking my Barcelona trip vegetarian meals with Delta, I noticed a myriad of dining choices

But one stood out for its DON'T factor

"Bland Meal"

Honey, if I want a bland meal, I'm sure as hell not gonna pay for it. I'll stay home and eat my old phone books, thank you.

Where the Wild Fern Throws (Down)

We're in sample sale mayhem right now in New York and Fern Mallis, fashion consultant and the lady who brought the New York shows to Bryant Park for years, recently shared with Racked a "sample" throw down of hers

"At a Manolo Blahnik VIP shoe sale several years ago I bought a pair of gold sequin stilettos. I figured they'd be a great accent shoe for a LBD... I've never worn them, and think I should have left them for the drag queens that were shopping"

         VS

Oh Fern, remember your Greek mythology: anything gilded and desired by a bunch of vain goddesses will start a war!

Is the Green Giant a Consigner?

Another high end consignment shop follows Roundabout's lead and opens downtown

And while I say "bring it on!" I kinda dig those pea green paper boots

(So Margiela!)

Bloomingdale's Gets All Mondrian on Us

Bloomingdale's, how'd you now I was feeling a little modish? A little Yves Saint Laurent-ish?

Found on Twitter: Stuarts London

Yesterday Stuarts London started following me on Twitter. According to their Twitter profile they're

 "a retro & Heritage fashion follower's paradise"

So you know I had to check that out! My abridged want list is as follows:

1. Barbour Tartan Holdall

Now the description has "wheelie" in it which makes me nervous as I'm more a classic luggage than one you can hear going over textured floors and grates. But the pull along parts are detachable for a gentleman who prefers style over sloth.

(Barbour cotton plaid with leather trim bag, £249.00 at Stuarts London, http://www.stuartslondon.com)

2. John Smedley Peregrine Basket Weave T Shirt

I'm a little guy, so I can pull off this knitted t shirt in a way that is less bottle service and Hummers and more Vespas and La Dolce Vita. I love the knit and I'll confess I looked up "Peregrine" on MerriamWebster.com (sidebar: love that site! Have it bookmarked.
Nerd Alert!) and the definition is "having a tendency to wander". Now Stuarts London has supplied me with new vocab and a desirable not so static knit.

(John Smedley 100% cotton basket weave t shirt, £116.00 at Stuarts London, http://www.stuartslondon.com)

3. Farah "The Beckett" Shirt in Tomato

Yesterday a client of mine was enquiring about the fit and make of a navy Pauw skirt. Her questions, however, were falling on deaf ears as I was making mental notes to pinch her style and pick up a short sleeve chambray in a reddish pink immediately and pair it with navy even faster! So chic in that French farmer way.

(Farah slim fit chambray shirt, available in blue and tomato, £45.00 at Stuarts London, http://www.stuartslondon.com)

4. Baracuta "James Dean" Jacket

Guess I'm not the only one on this perpetual hunt...

((Baracuta cotton canvas jacket, available in red and light khaki, £100.00 at Stuarts London, http://www.stuartslondon.com)

So, review? While they won't be usurping Merriam Webster from my main bookmark bar, they are indeed a paradise of men's stylish finds and will be added to my e-commerce folder. Pray now that my credit card doesn't find its way to Stuarts London too often.

One Hot Mother

Being Mother's Day and all, I can't wrap up a week of MET Ball without giving some love to the Mother of Re-Invention

Lookin' good, mama!
