Three Reasons I'm Crushing on the Handsome Ass Dollar Shave Club Guy
Ok, I'll admit "Mike" is a bit white-bread d-bag for my usual tastes, but there's something about how cocky and sardonic he is in his youtube sensation viral marketing.
PLUS he's got these three other things going for him:
1. He's sporty - "I'm good at tennis," he says with a missed volley. But that's fine because...
2. He's history nerd lite - "Your handsome ass grandfather only had one blade. And polio."
Ooh, archaic disease references will forever earn a place in my heart. Just ask Oregon Trail.
3. He's frugal - D'uh
Surely, I'm not alone in my shave and save lust???

Reblog: "Poor Little Rich Girl" Barbara Hutton
Yesterday I was having a lively Instagram chat with fashion designer, Peter Jensen (- shrug-, you know) about how great Barbara Hutton's bio, "Poor Little Rich Girl" is.
I included this trash and dish back in 2011 as part of the ever growing "It Can't All Be Dior" book club, but like Jensen, I feel it is due for a re-read, honey
But still so, so good. This is a summer beach read for every year!

Sometimes It Can Be: Dior's "Secret Garden" and Depeche Mode
Yes, Raf. YES! This latest installment of the 'Secret Garden' promotional art videos for Dior features divine art influences, rich French landscapes and sleek fashions all set to the new wave perfection of Depeche Mode's "Behind the Wheel" (off the anthemic brilliance that was the "Music for the Masses" album)
There's a certain art school coolness attached to this icy new wave strumming over gallery-ready ready to wear against watercolor scenery (this is not the first fab fashion house that's banked on the slick synths of Depeche Mode to sell perfume)
PS: Genius DIY project inspiration of CD pearlized opera glasses. Ooh, come on rainy day!

Peter Jensen's Spring 2014 Collection is a Study on Andy Warhol
British designer showed his men's spring 2014 and women's resort 214 simultaneous in London and took advantage of this tandem project to play up Andy Warhol and his famous gaggle of gals from The Factory
Andy was deviously intrigued by people. He always was fascinated with finding out what made these madcap people around him unique and then siphoning it out of them...
"I always run into strong women who are looking for weak men to dominate them"
Andy was deviously intrigued by people. He always was fascinated with finding out what made these madcap people around him unique and then siphoning it out of them...
"I always run into strong women who are looking for weak men to dominate them"
He was an avid social critic who loved to document every moment and felt far more comfortable as the artist than the subject of scrutiny...
I love Los Angeles. I love Hollywood. They’re beautiful. Everybody’s plastic, but I love plastic. I want to be plastic.
He was crazy shy and insecure...
I just do art because I’m ugly and there’s nothing else for me to do.
He embraced commercial products for both their simple design and commerce...
An artist is somebody who produces things that people don’t need to have.

Which Dior Fall 2013 Couture Pieces Will Marion Cotillard Don???
Ooh, it's hot and gross out. Let's play fantasy dream sequence and try and guess which pieces from Raf Simons' Fall 2013 couture collection hired face, Marion Cotillard, will wear?
It doesn't matter that it's 96 degrees in the shade, Marion stays cool as a cucumber in her layered skirt shift, perfect for a power-high-tea at Mariage Freres
Deep Blue Something
M. Cotillard just loves a column dress, cheri. And now, thanks to dear, dear Raf, the column dress can actually look like a column. Finalement! Someone who gets it.
Lunch Lady
Deep Blue Something
Yes, diva! Marion knows Madame only has one chance to make a grand entrance. Enter the room with bold, royal colors to let everyone know whose Fiefdom this is, honey!
Gym Clothes
Braving the elements doesn't mean you can't bear a little leg. Afterall, the misses does not attend the Cerles de la Forme for rien, mon ami!

If You're Heading to the Beach This Weekend

Doin' It: Last Night's Viral Fashion Relaunch Party
I write for an online fashion magazine, Viral Fashion (in case ya' didn't know) and last night Mr Taurus put on our Summer best and attended the relaunch party (new fancy website: check it) at Soho gallery, Yellow Korner
(As the menswear editor, you know I had to kill it in a vintage Madonna "Who's That Girl?" concert t-shirt, suspenders, paper bag waist pants and my fave carpet bag)
(Mr Taurus was Summer fashion diva ready in his mesh jersey tank and cutoffs with a vintage luggage bag. Cutie.)

My Summer Soundtrack: Belle & Sebastian
Ok, I'll admit I have been hooked by the omnipresent disco 2000 sounds of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and the H+M ready soundtrack of Selena Gomez's "Come and Get It" (the former being banned from my office as it is the earworm of the century, darlin'!), but when I get home from a long Summer day of describing stretch jersey dresses and rubbing elbows with the girls who wear them on the crowded R train, I run for the soothing sounds of Belle & Sebastian. Their best work, in my opinion, is the opus known as "The Boy with the Arab Strap"
The titular track reminds me of younger times dancing in a crowd of friends on The Ottobar stage (here's looking at you J) but each song somehow melds that twee vibe with soft Summer swaying without being cloying. How'd they do that??? Normally I am not a fan of that whispy white girl voice floating in the background that B+S have since begot, but this album really did still bring in the fun. It wasn't dippy. It was Summery. And years later, it still is.

This Weekend I Escaped to Istanbul
Oh how I WISH I was one of those "she's so lucky" types that weekends in the Black Sea, but alas I am purely referring to a candle
Granted this an Archipelago candle (ooh, Greek vocab time. How many Byzantine states can I fit in one post, honey?) so our little Park Slope home took on the sea cliffs of the Istanbul (was Constantinople!) with a heady blend of black cannibus, warm ambers and flush rose leaves. Green and exotic, this scent made the unshakable heat of our New York apartment feel like a divine invitation to wine and Netflix heavy evenings in the a/c

Comeback Week: Lucky Jeans
"Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc.’s Lucky day might be coming soon.
The men’s wear retailer has emerged as a surprise bidder in the auction for Fifth & Pacific Cos. Inc.’s Lucky Brand division, which is also being pursued by a financial player, according to sources. "

Fifth and Pacific is looking to unload its jean brand, Lucky Brand (along with Juicy Couture), to focus on its blossoming and promising Kate Spade brand.
At first the business community didn't think F+P would get the $400 million it was asking for Lucky, but with buyers circling (including Jos. Bank, which has $$$ to burn and a need to acquire a new brand so it can grow further) and a new Fall 2013 campaign starring the legend Lauren Hutton
Lucky might be having its biggest moment in a lifetime, honey.
