A Nice Alt-ernative at Chanel
At the Chanel Fall 2011 show, while everyone was cavorting around in tweedy, twee suits, fawning all over Karl for a momentary glance, Emmanuelle Alt sat front row in her "let's ditch fifth period and go to the Orange Julius" effortless cool.
Let this be clear: I am by no means advocating lazy, casual dressing, but man she looks perfectly pulled together without trying too hard. I can't wait for her premiere French Vogue cover!

Christophe Decarnin Needs the Help of Two Wards Right Now
Seems LVMH didn't have the lock on Paris Fashion Week drama. Christophe Decarnin was visibly absent Thursday from his Balmain Fall 2011 show (the first to be styled by Melanie Ward taking over for recently promoted Emmanuelle Alt)
The house of Balmain's official statement is
[Decarnin] “is not feeling well” and “by doctor’s orders needs rest, and that is the only reason he was not present at the show”
Rumors, meanwhile, swirled that it was exhaustion of drug filled nites he was really resting from. There was even whispers that Ward herself may have been behind the designs, although that may have had more to do with the Fall collections more minimalist style versus the usual rock n roll vibe Decarnin has become known for since taking over Balmain in 2005
(not long ago there'd be a whole lot more chains and burns in this look. New direction or new director?)

French Vogue's Getting Piggy with the Talent
Watch out Emmanuelle Alt, Miss Piggy is gunning for your gig.
According to Vogue UK, Miss Piggy will play an editor for French Vogue in the latest Muppet movie slated for February 2012.
You just know every designer with a sense of humor is calling for a cameo! Couldn't you just see Isaac Mizrahi and Piggy at a power lunch while she's decked out in mini Oscar de la Renta and a wee Chanel classic quilted?
(well excuse me, girlfriend. Of course you've already got a classic. How silly of me.)
(and obviously ELLE, but Miss Piggy and Catherine Deneuve together? Purrrrr)

Make Room for Emmanuelle
Carine's successor has been named at French VOGUE and Emmanuelle Alt is the girl with the golden ticket.
She's earned it too having been the fashion director and a close hand to Ms. Roitfeld since 2000, and responsible for styling many of the controversial and publicity garnering shoots over the years.
I'm excited for her and the amazing images will continue, but maybe that's my one grievance. Fashion isn't about continuity and the status quo; a change would have been an exciting mix up.
But then again....
