This Céline Drama Reminds People about Geoffrey Beene

(Photo: Fashionista)

"That said, it’s not the first time a distinctly American designer has had their ideas reworked by the house. For example; the leather trimmed canvas that was a major leitmotif of Philo’s debut at Céline was actually a signature of designer Bonnie Cashin. My question is that if Phoebe Philo clearly has an interest and respect for American design history how come no one else does?"

-Jeremy Lewis, the editor of Garmento who first spotted the similarity between a Céline coat and a 2004 Geoffre Beene coat design

Man and Bonnie Cashin! People, American fashion wasn't always cargo shorts and stretch jersey slutwear. This, while not so sensational as every designer is influenced by archives of their own or others, is a good reminder of the brilliance of former fashion favorites. Know your history!

PETA Finds an Animal Ally in Topshop

Topshop's Oxford Street store windows are a real jungle right now. Filled with stuffed animals that draw you in with their cuteness, this critters pack a powerful message: “Keep wildlife out of your wardrobe.”

Topshop has teamed up with PETA for a campaign to advocate getting the fur and leather look without animal suffering. Faux is the new fur. Pleather and faked exotic skins are in.

Personally, I used to say that even wearing faux fur promotes the bad cause, but now, submerged in the fashion world and acutely aware of fur's recent grand splash runway return, better to fake it then make it, in this case. The modern man and woman want the styles but without the suffering. And with major technological improvements, it's getting harder to tell the fake from the real thing anymore.

Stella McCartney has been toeing the line of stylish and unreal specimens brilliantly for years and hers is now a successful business with profits increasing to $4.6 million during the fiscal year. Topshop is taking a leadership stance that will hopefully be the future of fashion. No longer will animals have to die to "get the look".

This Chloé Skirt is Quite Versatile

Bring on the Kit Kats and Chicken and Waffle potato chips, fashionista!

Ms. Clare Waight Keller has created a Chloé that lets you still look amaze if you've over-indulged

Not that anyone in fashion would admit to consuming a Kit Kat

Three Makes it a Trend: Second Skin Boots

The message is clear for Fall 2013: keep the baby powder handy!

Boots shown on the Fall runways of Paris are second skin close

First seen Sunday at Céline...

the trend carried over in thigh high and chains at Chanel

and Lydia Maurer showed a cropped and tight style at Paco Rabanne

But in a world of ever increasing obesity and global warming
is this a climate controlled runway only fantasy?

Today I Received the Nicest Response on a Piece I Wrote

I was floored when I received this email. So kind, really made me smile
and I had to share it with you:

Dear Mac,

I had a chance to read the entire interview and I personally would like to thank you. Your writing captured the true essence of my vision,  the brand and what I am all about.
