7 Sinfully Good Years in New York

New York is a sinful city and on the eve of my SEVEN year anniversary living in this den of sin, I thought I'd examine how I've fallen prey to each temptation and naughtiness

GREED

It's easy to be greedy in the city. So many drinks, twinks and trinkets to be had.

WRATH

Everyday annoyances like people, subways and the high price of booze makes a b wanna snap. I'ma snap!

SLOTH

I tried to give this up for Lent this year, but throughout my time in New York I be lazy. Two blocks to the laundromat? Ugh, too far. And then I'm gonna drop it off and let someone else do it.

PRIDE

It's easy to get a big head when you work in fashion and you fawned over and stuff is given to you. To paraphrase the wise and boastful Lil Kim "y'all rock Versace and you went out and bought it, I rock Versace and you know I ain't pay [RETAIL] for it"

ENVY

Is their apartment bigger or in a better neighborhood or closer to the train? Do they have a better job? Does their boyfriend?

GLUTTONY

New York offers up a lot and copious consumption is part of the lease. Nums!

LUST

I'ma leave that one alone.

New York I love ya, and here's to sinning most vigorously for another seven!

Today I Fell for...

Portuguese soccer player Raul Meireles

With the tats, mohawk and bad boy delivery...

As my co-worker said, when we were watching the game during our lunch "hour"

'David Beckham, who?!'

And he clean up nice

My tongue is WAGging!

Good Advice: Children, Know Your Place

Cuz, as this helpful West Village drinking hole reminds us, it ain't behind the bar.

I Will Love this Lara Stone and Hot Chip Combo "Night and Day"

Just the other day I was returning to my all things Hot Chip stance and then lo and behold, new Hot Chip!

And with intergalactic Lara Stone

Pride Weekend 2012

Shameful gay-fession: I've never been to Pride before. But this year I not only attended, I marched and danced in the Housing Works procession

There was even some swirling

And waving around house shaped signs demanding gender equality for everyone

Funny how over two years into a relationship and one year after gay marriage is passed in New York, I truly was filled with PRIDE

Lord & Taylor Wants You to Pick Up More than Slingbacks This Weekend

Lord & Taylors nationwide are hosting a 'Perfect Pair' event this Saturday. Slip into some mules and let a little four legged number slip into your heart.

Not only will there be dogs up for adoption from no kill animal sheltersduring the event, but L+T is promoting the cause with a fund raiser for Best Friends Animal Society on their blog, HERE

Best Friends Animal Society is a nationwide non-profit organization focused on building no-kill programs and partnerships.

***My only thought, however, is remember animals are not accessories and this is a true commitment unlike last season's sandals. ***

Thanks for the Ad: Mulberry Fall 2012

It's hotter than a witch's oven here in New York, but it wouldn't be fashion without that wonk-a-do sense of calendar disorientation.

Mulberry's Fall campaign has dropped and feature fuzzy wuzzy Where the Wild Things Are critters creeping for Alexa and Del Ray bags

Careful, girl!

And careful furry monsters you don't go getting heat exhaustion!

DON'T: Let Poor Styling Ruin Your First All Menswear Collection

Remember how excited I was that Jonathan Saunders was finally crafting a whole menswear collection?

Well, the looks are good, albeit I could really do without the douchey model styling. The hair and those awful sunglasses and poses almost take away from a strong first foray into menswear

Ugh and those silver shoes. So a mixed bag indeed, but one with potential if Mr Saunders can get a far better stylist on board. Here's looking forward to round two.

Menswear Spring 2013 DIY: Pajama Dressing

Pajama dressing has been in vogue for the ladies for a while now, but a look for Nicole Farhi by menswear head Massimo Nicosia, showed a sharp dressed handsome lad working the look

In this sweltering heat a loose, breathable top with just a hint of structure sounds ideally fresh and polished at the same time. Watch out nearby 34th Street Kmart, here I come to pinch this look for a lot less.

Does New York Make You Prematurely Grey?

One of the funny side effects of a public transit dependent life is how up close and sequestered you get with people. At this magnified moment you can really get a good view of what's going on. On my commute yesterday home and into work today, I noticed a continuous streak : people are going grey. Young people and middle aged people alike, but the propensity to grey seems pretty prevalent right about now.

There's slashes at the bangs and stashes at the temples. Wisps in the fly-aways and collections in the comb-overs.

But why are so many Q train riders in need of some Nice n Easy? Is it the hectic work schedules where 8 or hell, even 9 hour days are a treat. Summer Fridays are non-existent and lunch breaks are reason for rumbling.

Is it the dependency on an archaic transit system that continues to decrease customer satisfaction while increasing rates? Or the scrape to the finish to get home to the apartment that you work so hard to afford the luxury of renting?

Or is this merely that New York living allows closeness to truly examine people's noggins? I mean outside of New York how often does the opportunity for intimacy to inspect occur? For all we know this is a generational thing or yet another side effect of a diet based on mutated corn and the cows that eat it.

A little side observation how pop culture is on this trend: Kelly Osbourne, Lady Gaga and Kristen McMenamy have all embraced grey hair while George Clooney continues to be the ne plus ultra male sex symbol and the nation has become enraptured in the ultimate beach read for sad, sexless marriages "50 Shades of Grey".

Perhaps it isn't all so black and white.

Bill Gaytten's Last Hurrah at Dior

On Friday, Bill Gaytten showed his last interim head designer Dior collection leaving the door open for Raf Simons' Spring 2013 debut. But there were really beautiful and fun pieces in this serviceable swan song

Crisp calico shirting feels so fresh. And love the piping trim.

Full and tulle = Springtime cool.

My co-worker is obsessed with backless dresses and this one would be primo if she were not my co-worker and instead some lady who doesn't have to work for a living. Those shoes are an unfortunate pairing.

Farewell, Mr Gaytten. Enjoy your Galliano namesake label makeover (he's at the helm there now) and It Can't All Be Dior awaits Raf's contributions with breathe that is bated.

Salma Hayek is Chewing Up the Savages Trailer!

This is the Summer movie season of powerful women eating up villainous roles and Salma, my dear, you have my attention

Front the straight bangs to the reluctant drug lord widow, every time Blake Lively yammers on about not necessarily being alive at the end of the movie, I await your command of the trailer

Aww slap!

Last Nite's Dinner Party

Barley with roasted fennel, pickled onions, dill and radishes

Pickled onions worked brilliantly as an olive substitute

Crafting a dill, spring onion and lime sauce

Roasted!

The dill, spring onion and lime sauce

The slaughter!

Thanks again, former girl who lived in my new home for never cancelling your Bon Appetit subscription!

I Loved this Prabal Gurung Resort 2013 Print...

The first time I saw it in Givenchy's Fall 2011 collection...

OH SNAP!

Something Pickled this Way Comes

Tonite I'm having some friends over for dinner and I got a jump start last nite by making my first ever pickled something or another

The pickled onions are gonna give a nice contrast to the rest of the salad tones tonite.

To be continued....
